| Internet games Hearts, Spades, Reversi, Backgamon not working on XP Sweet there is a while I am to try to find a solution to this crazy problem! Of course it is not very important, but it's just to have it working and I already put some append in forum without finding solution! What I want : a portable application to play every games on the web (Windows XP PC) without to have to install something! For exemple on machines running "sweet" XP, etc... where the internet games are not installed. Who can help me and tell me what are the necessary modules? Actually I cannot play all the "standards" games on the web (backgamon, hearts, spades, reversi, etc...) and for each of them when I try to start I got the same error message ============= "Hearts cannot start. Close some programs and try again or try to install again ...." ============= Here is a list of the minimum modules: ============= bckg.dll bckgres.dll bckgzm.exe chkr.dll chkrres.dll chkrzm.exe Cmnclim.dll Cmnresm.dll hrtz.dll Hrtzres.dll hrtzzm.exe rvse.dll Rvseres.dll Rvsezm.exe shvl.dll Shvlres.dll shvlzm.exe UniAnsi.dll zClientm.exe ZCorem.dll zeeverm.dll ZNetM.dll zoneclim.dll zonelibM.dll ============= But of course some is missing as it does not work"as is"! Thank you for your help and have a good day |

Here's a few causes for Spider, Solitaire, Free Cell, etc., failing. This list was originally started by +Elmo_Tech :-) - Free Cell was locking up until, by reading a message on this Newsgroup, I turned off IMGICON.EXE on the Start Menu (Control/Alt/Delete). By instruction from Iomega, after trying updated download for the Iomega Zip drive, I did a search for IMGICON.EXE and deleted it. It works now. - Solitaire Caused General Protection Fault in Module: http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q234/4/30.asp - General Protection Fault When Starting Microsoft Solitaire: http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q237/9/00.asp - Problems Running FreeCell And Solitaire with Office XP Installed: http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q304/4/02.asp - Freecell FAQ: http://home.swipnet.se/staffan/fcfaq.htm - For more KB articles try: http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/solitair.htm - Press Ctrl/Alt-Delete, click Point32 to highlight, and click End Task. You may lose mouse acceleration and scrolling selections till you reboot. - Reinstall the game(s): Windows XP: Click START / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / Add Remove Windows Components / Accessories and Utilities / [Details...] / Games / [Details...] / pick your games / Click [OK] 3 times. May require XP CD. To Install or Uninstall Windows 9x Games: Click START / Settings / Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs / Click on the Windows Setup tab and double-click Accessories. Check the box beside Games, then click OK / click OK again. You'll need your Windows 98 Setup CD to complete the installation unless the win98 .cab files directory was saved on your hard drive. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup...artup_full.htm KNOWN SOFTWARE THAT CAUSES CONFLICTS: "Have you also installed McAfee VirusScan's latest version? Malfunctioning in Freecell and Solitaire is a known problem for them, and they suggest a solution on their site." * Did you just install a Windows Update before this problem started? Perhaps the update didn't install properly. Remove the most recent update (the one(s) with the largest KB numbers) and try the game again before you reinstall the update with your antivirus software disabled. - AVG does the same thing.. Disable before you start the game. - Slow Spider Solitaire: "If I open "Start",and then "Help" Spider Solitaire works fine. That is I must run "Help" while I'm playing Spider Solitaire." - Pop Up stoppers. - Cookie Crushers. - rundll (use Control Alt Delete to open Task Manager to end this task) - PGP - Pretty Good Protection software. - Mouse pointers.. Use default, or less-active pointers. - Internet Explorer 6. - Iomega zipdisk program conflict with IE6. An article: "..a post on here a couple of weeks ago that suggested that this has to do with a Iomega Zip disk file that you have running. IMGICON.EXE This is loaded from the StartUp folder as Zip Disk Icons. (or it was on my PC) Hit Ctrl - Alt - Del and see if it's running." - Cleansweep's usage monitor. Disable. |

| Re: Internet games Hearts, Spades, Reversi, Backgamon not working on XP Sweet
I have a problem with playing these games on my windows XP PRO. When I double click on any game (such as bckgzm.exe, in the directory c:\Program Files\MSN Gaming Zone\windows I get an error banner saying: "Backgammon is unable to start. Close some other programs and try again, or try reinstalling Backgammon using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel" 1 - I have 2GB of ram and no other apps are running. 2. I tried the Add/Remove programs, and there is NOTHING there to help me re-install it - unless of course I am not looking in the right place. Any help to fix this will be grrreatly appreciated. Best regards |

| Re: Internet games Hearts, Spades, Reversi, Backgamon not working on XP Sweet
Ok, I know this is an old thread, but I was searching the internet and found this, and then later fixed the problem. I will post what I did here so that others can find it. First let me say I went from XP MCE to a TinyXP Pro. I'm not sure which versions of XP have the internet games by default, maybe all stock ones have it, but either way here's what I did. First, try to install it from add/remove programs in the control panel. In games there's a separate entry for Internet Games, which for me says it's 8.5 megs. However, I did not have that at all at first, I had to add it. As said above you need all the C:\Program Files\MSN Gaming Zone\Windows\ files, but you also need these files: C:\WINDOWS\inf\IGAMES.INF C:\WINDOWS\Help\*.chm C:\WINDOWS\system32\zoneoc.dll Then you need to edit this file: C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf Add this line: [Components] ... MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7 ZoneGames=zoneoc.dll,ZoneSetupProc,igames.inf,,7 <- ***Add this*** TabletPC=tabletoc.dll,TabletSetupProc,Tabletpc.inf ,HIDE,7 You only need to add the ZoneGames line, I put the others in there just to give context. Once you've done this you may need to restart, but it should list Internet Games now in Add/Remove programs. All you have to do is install it from there. I copied all the files directly from another XP machine I have in my house, no need to edit anything (except for sysoc.inf which you already have on your PC, don't replace yours with another one). If you don't have the files I put them all in a zip here: http://daleswanson.org/programs/MSN Gaming Zone.7z However, I won't guarantee I'll leave them up. Oh, sweet, sweet Internet Hearts, here I come. EDIT: Oh yeah, to help searching here is the exact error I'd get if I just tried coping over the .exes and running them: "Hearts is unable to start, close some other programs and try again or try reinstalling checkers using the add/remove programs." | MSN Internet games file here came in handy!!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU that sweetheart, lifesaver Dale Swanson!!! I was looking all over every other month, wks at a time 4 this file. I just knew somebody had to have put it up. On my thinkpad I lost some files from a heavy duty cleaning software I used & uninstalled, later realizing my games was gone. But here on my desktop, I noticed nothing was in my MSN Gaming Zone\Windows\ files (blank folder) and everytime I tried 2 play my fav spades (only hearts worked), a window came up giving me the same problem everybody in postings above had. I replaced Dales w/ my own and now everything works but the Spades =( the one I want...and the pinball is over in the Service Pack i386 file and that says the wavemix.inf file is missing. Everything wasworking up until I used that ATF cleaner & took the SP3 update. Anyway now I have to figure out what Dale mean by "edit a file", but I jus wanted him 2 know his file came in handy...if he ever comes back 2 check his post!! Good looking out =) |

| Re: Internet games Hearts, Spades, Reversi, Backgamon not working on XP Sweet
Hi, Dale. (or anyone else that may see this reply) I was wondering if you would possibly be able to repost the zip of those MSN Internet game files. I had Windows XP Pro on my old computer. And, have recently acquired a newer and faster computer. It has Windows XP on it, but I have tried to download the games files from the 'add remove windows components" but it does not give me an option to download the MSN internet games (like reversi, checkers, etc). I tried downloading off the XP disk I received, but they ar not on ther. I have searched online HOPING that someone had them posted somewhere, but have not been able to locate the files I can download. Thank you for your help! It is greatly appreciated. Regards |
