Using printmig.exe to migrate printers from 32bit to 64bit W2K3

Hi I need some help here to migrate some set of printers from a one server to another. I have a very big network here. There are around 280 printers configured on the server. The server has Windows 2000 32bit OS. Now we had created a new one which has Windows 2003 64bit. This is the new standalone server cluster. I want to migrate all the printers from the old one to new one. I had tried to use printmig.exe a number of time but yet not succeeded in transferring the same. At the time of migration there was no error at all and all printers looks to be detected in the list. But none of them are working. So I restored them back to the 32bit server and they started working. It looks there is some bug with this 64bit system. I am using a 64-bit universal printer driver by hp. So that should work I think.

I think the link below can put a bit more highlight on what you are willing to do. To migrate printer you need a valid working 64bit printer driver. Or else it will not work. This issue is very common with 64bit servers. While you had seen on your own that it works nicely with 32bit system. System like Windows Vista has a print backup and migration and backup software. This can be used to backup the printers from 32bit system and then restore them on 64bit. I am quiet not sure about the 64bit edition of Windows 2003 servers.

To restore settings, Vista backup migration tool can be used. You can try using setprinter using Windows Resource kit. This would help you to configure the migration in better way.
