cdrom driver missing

I am using XP 64 bit for some time.
Suddenly my DVD-driver is gone and Windows does not see it anymore. I had to
install XP again but is there another easier solution? What does cause this
problem?

I have a Lite On SOHW-1693S with the latest firmware.

Thanks

Before you installed XP again, did you try uninstalling the driver and
re-installing it or going to Control Panel and deleting the DVD ROM and
letting Windows find it again?

Yes, but Windows still gave a yellow sign.
I used ccleaner sometimes. Could that be the cause?

Possible but I'm not sure?

I don't know about ccleaner but have heard of this happening after
installing the Kodak picture viewer. Try to use system restore to roll back
before the DVD drive was lost. There is another way of deleting the upper
and lower filters but someone else will have to help with that. Have a great
day.

Re: cdrom driver missing

It might have zapped the upper or lower filters. There are a few programs
that also do that when installed. The filters were probably the problem.

Re: cdrom driver missing

This worked for me in Vista 64Bit, only one filter needed to be changed
though

Yes, but Windows still gave a yellow sign.
I used ccleaner sometimes. Could that be the cause?

Re: cdrom driver missing

Yeah. Betcha it was the MS KB314060 syndrome again.
The "filter" thing.

Hi Dennis. You said you were going to get your new test results today and I
hope the results are negative and you don't have to go back on chemo. Since
most ulcers have been found to be caused by a bacteria, I assume the doctor
tested for that and put you on the strong anti-biotic that everyone I know
with an ulcer, cured the problem, even if they had been suffering for many
years with it. Best of luck.

Thank you for the good wishes. As the saying goes about changes
eliminating boredom, I'm an example. Last Friday I had my Gall Bladder
removed, now I'll find out about chemo-therapy on May 30th. Have a great

Nice comment, buddy! :)
As an old friend of mine used to say (sadly he already passed away).
"There is something that aging gives you: wisdom.
Knowledge, you can get it from the books.
Wisdom belongs to the 'old' people."
And that is what flourishes here: wisdom.
I kinda like it here.
