Win7 Search?

I am struggling with the windows 7 search.
I somehow can't figure out how to search for a <file> containing <text>
within the windows explorer.

I moved from XP to W7 a few month ago and in XP this is easy so I assume
it should be possible in W7 too, right?

Re: Win7 Search?

a search of the files / folders which are indexed can be started when you
type your keyphrase into the start menu.
More informations around the builtin windows search can be found here ->
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...windows-search

PS : Not all files/folders are out-of-the-box fulltext indexed therefore
possibly you need to customize that feature for your needs ->

I tried your first link, but that did not tell me any new things.
Your second link seems to require programming knowledge.

Isn't there a "simple" way to search in all files of a folder which
contain a specific expression? Where did the "old" xp search assistent go?

As soon as you click on Start, begin typing your search item. I have been
using every version of windows since Win 3 and have never come across
anything as fast as this.

Re: Win7 Search?

:-) - of course here we go....

Control Panel -> (Switch to classic view) Indexing Options -> Advanced
(Switch to File Types) :

How this file should be indexed ?
"Index Properties Only" or "Index Properties and File Contents"

Here you can now specify which file types should be fulltext indexed.

Hope that helps
