Is 32-bit driver possible on 64-bit Windows XP

Hi folks,

I've got a question. On my Windows XP (32-bit) machine I have a D-Link
Wi-Fi USB-adapter (DWA-142) installed which works just fine using D-
Link driver. I am going to move to a 64-bit Windows XP soon but there
is a problem because D-Link does not provide 64-bit version of the
driver for the device. I tried to use 32-bit driver inside 64-bit
Windows XP and it failed. Does anyone know the way how to resolve the
issue? (For instance: Is there any 64-bit wrapper on Windows for 32-
bit drivers or anything else?)

Thanks.

In general: no. 32-bit user-space drivers *may* work, but you'll
generally have to edit the .inf file to make them install. 32-bit system
drivers will never work in x64.

Your best bet is to find out what chip is inside the D-Link device, then
search the chip manufacturer's web site: there's a reasonable chance
they have a suitable 64-bit driver available. Otherwise search for other
brands with the same chip inside them and see if they have a 64-bit
driver you can use instead.

There are some Vista x64 drivers that will not install in
Win XP x64 - just a caution.
