Explorer.exe APPCRASH in Vista x64

I have read so many different forums and have not found the answer to my
problem. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Every time I click on the desktop to open an application or go to my
computer explorer.exe crashes and I get the following:

*problem signature:*
problem event name: appcrash
application name: explorer.exe
application version: 6.0.6000.16549
application timestamp: 46d235d0
fault module name: shell32.dll
fault module version: 6.0.6000.16513
fault module timestamp: 4681d936
exception code: c0000005
exception offset: 000000000015402b
os version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.2
locale id: 1033
additional information 1: 5daa
additional information 2: 55d0f5f1315e1b50803ff13bbf9a191b
additional information 3: 4e8d
additional information 4: 7d38412fd536b2efd1a6bd718dcbf45f

i've ran norton, windows defender, anti spyware software, and a family
safety critical update to the reg. i have had no luck.

btw: i have vista home basic x64. the problem started yesterday after
running vista with no problems for six month's. no new software
installs, except a quickbooks 2007 update.

Hi,

Explorer crashes such as this are often related to ad/spyware, but not
limited to such. It is also possible that an IE plugin/addon is at fault, as
the two applications share many processes. I would suggest you might want to
run process explorer and see if something spikes when this happens. You can
get the free tool here:

Can you uninstall it? It's just too coincidental to not check it first.

Are you running an intel board, there is an issue with intel's provided
audio drivers that cause explorer.exe to crash.

I ran stock Vista "High Definition Audio Device" drivers instead and
the problem went away for me.

How do you run this? I have Vista Home Prem so I don't think I am running
x64 but I have the same problem...
