Windows Explorer Not Responding

I am running Vista Home Premium, and whenever I startup my computer, right
off the start a dialog box pops up that says Windows Explorer is not orking
correctly as if it was not responding. Windows then shuts down Explorer and
about a second later Explorer is restarted, but then the same thing
happens... over and over again. I have managed to start the task manager
which allowed me to manually cancel the Explorer process with out any side
effects, other than not being able to use explorer for anything. Currently I
am using the Task Manager's "New Task" ability to write this. Any help is
greatly appreciated.

Re: Windows Explorer Not Responding

I also experienced this exact problem. I have a new Dell Inspiron 1505 and
after getting a pop up message from Dell saying there was a new driver that
needed to be installed (I'm sorry but at the moment I do not remember which
one) and rebooting, this occurred. I used a restore point from earlier that
day which corrected the issue. I then later received the same pop up from
Dell, but this time I ignored it and have not had any trouble since....

check timedate.cpl to see if it is the new one

I post my findings that I just discovered last night on another thread hoping to help anyone who has the same problem. Good luck!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who received (Not Responding) on your Windows Explorer a few seconds right after reboot I would like to share my past finding on an obviously a major bug in the lastest patch from Microsoft for Windows Vista.

It took me almost two full days trying to diagnose the problem and eventually found where the cuase is.. Wish to report the problem back to Microsoft but they have no way for me to get in support easily and I have to pay $59 for tell them what they made a major mistake?

Anyway, on November I installed the new patch KB941649 (I also installed KB941600 and KB905866, but I think that was the criminal one). It updated a Control Panel Item timedate.cpl to 698KB. From that point on I could not get my system up as normal. About a minute or so after the reboot the system will go into a sleep mode and the first one is the Windows Explorer. Tried almost everything from disabling unrecognized services to unknown startup process and nothing seems helped.

Well, if you have the same problem, here is what you can do ...

1. boot system
2. right click task bar as soon as system gets up and select Property
3. on the Notification Area tab, unclick the "Clock"
4. hit Ok and see if you can log off to save the changes
5. when you get the system back up rename the timedate.cpl in
%Windows root%\System32 folder to timedate-cpl.bad

Let me know if you find it does not work for you or questions.

Good luck!

EdHu,

This worked for me. So far so good. Will update if the problem crops up but I think it should not.

Thanks and ton.

Re: Windows Explorer Not Responding

I have been dealing with this same issue for a while now. I have finally fixed mine I hope. Windows Live installs a program called family safety. I went into uninstall programs and choose Windows Live, then checked family safety. As soon as I uninstalled it I was able to right click start. Use Word, excel and Adobe without lock ups. Hope this helps someone
