HELP sfc /scannow

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (build 6000).

In attempting to run the ...sfc /scannow... command from the Adminstrator:
Command Prompt (with the Vista DVD in the drive), the command starts, then
stops at 8% complete, then breaks out saying...
"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".

Upon checking the CBS log, I find this...

is missing and the file...
d:\vistartm\base\wcp\sil\merged\ntu\ntsystem.cpp
is not present in the Vista DVD.
Upon manually checking the DVD, there is no vistartm folder.

rtm seems to mean "Released To Manufacturer". Was there a previous vistartm
version of Vista released?
How do I fix this?

Thank for your help...

Try running System File Checker without the Vista DVD. The DVD would be of
no use, really, and it may be causing it not to complete its scan. The
files it verifies against (or cross-checks with) are under
C:\Windows\WinSxS\.

Under
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-audio-dsound.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_59c3aa5060640f47,
dsound.dll.mui is the only file in that folder. You can check if this is
the case on your computer. I'm not sure the entry in your log is cause for
concern.

To determine which files could not be repaired by the System File Checker
tool, more easily, after a scan, see:
