| HELP sfc /scannow
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (build 6000). In attempting to run the ...sfc /scannow... command from the Adminstrator: Command Prompt (with the Vista DVD in the drive), the command starts, then stops at 8% complete, then breaks out saying... "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation". Upon checking the CBS log, I find this... ==================================================================================================== CBS.log extract... 2007-05-08 13:08:34, Info CSI 0000001a [SR] Verifying 100 (0x00000064) components 2007-05-08 13:08:34, Info CSI 0000001b [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction 2007-05-08 13:08:35, Error CSI 0000001c (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #313288# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectFileSystemProvider::SysCreateFile(flags = (AllowSharingViolation), handle = {provider=NULL, handle=0}, da = (STANDARD_RIGHTS_READ|FILE_READ_ATTRIBUTES), oa = @0x58e57c->OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES {s:24; rd:NULL; on:[121]"\??\C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-audio-dsound.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_59c3aa5060640f47"; a:(OBJ_CASE_INSENSITIVE)}, iosb = @0x58e59c, as = (null), fa = 0, sa = (FILE_SHARE_READ|FILE_SHARE_WRITE|FILE_SHARE_DELETE), cd = FILE_OPEN, co = 0x00004000, eab = NULL, eal = 0, disp = Invalid) 2007-05-08 13:08:35, Error CSI 0000001d@2007/5/8:04:08:35.609 (F) d:\vistartm\base\wcp\sil\merged\ntu\ntsystem.cpp(1461): Error STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND originated in function Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectFileSystemProvider::SysCreateFile expression: (null) [gle=0x80004005] 2007-05-08 13:08:44, Error CSI 0000001e (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #313287# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::CDirectory::OpenExistingDirectory(...) 2007-05-08 13:08:44, Error CSI 0000001f (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #313286# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::CDirectory_IRtlDirectoryTearoff::OpenExistingDirectory(flags = 0, da = (SYNCHRONIZE), oa = @0x58e950->SIL_OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES {s:20; on:"x86_microsoft-windows-audio-dsound.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_59c3aa5060640f47"; a:(OBJ_CASE_INSENSITIVE)}, sa = (FILE_SHARE_READ|FILE_SHARE_WRITE|FILE_SHARE_DELETE), oo = (FILE_DIRECTORY_FILE|FILE_SYNCHRONOUS_IO_NONALERT|FILE_OPEN_FOR_BACKUP_INTENT), dir = NULL, disp = (null)) ==================================================================================================== If I'm reading the above extract correctly, the file... Try running System File Checker without the Vista DVD. The DVD would be of no use, really, and it may be causing it not to complete its scan. The files it verifies against (or cross-checks with) are under C:\Windows\WinSxS\. Under C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-audio-dsound.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_59c3aa5060640f47, dsound.dll.mui is the only file in that folder. You can check if this is the case on your computer. I'm not sure the entry in your log is cause for concern. To determine which files could not be repaired by the System File Checker tool, more easily, after a scan, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 |
