PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA + Winload.exe

My computer (Toshiba Satilite, VISTA HOME PREMIUM 32bit...) has crashed
recently...
It crashed then I restarted it. And it said. "BLAH BLAH BLAH
Winload.exe is missing or corrupt". I tried reseting to factory defaults
but it didn't work. Soon after that, I changed my BIOS settings and put
the cd drive at the top and inserted my Windows Vista Home Premium
Installation Disk. After that I got, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It
waas a blue screen thing. I tried many commands in the repair promt
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot, but they didn't help any. I've been looking
around and I have found things like it may be a bad stick of ram or my
hard drive. I'm not sure which one. Any help?

Try here:

Another solution I came across was to boot again to command prompt and run
chkdsk /r

Download and run memtest to test your memory modules.

Memtest is included with Vista Home Premium (or at least it is on mine),
although it may not be the same. Open Admin Tools and run the Memory
Diagnostics Tool. It reboots your PC and runs the diagnostics then. Works
pretty well- it found an error on a new stick of RAM I had bought recently.

That is not memtest, that is Microsoft's memory diagnostic, not the same
thing.

Didn't think it was quite the same, but it does work. Surprised that MS can
call it memtest.exe though.

But they don't call it "memtest86.com".

Memtest86 is the current "gold standard".

I should have included this link:
http://www.memtest86.com/

That address is old and Memtest86 has been deprecated for many
years. The correct and current program is Memtest86+ and is available from
www.memtest.org.

Re: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA + Winload.exe

Not to be argumentative but no software memory test program can be called a
"gold standard".

The memory is tested under a no load condition at standard voltages. I have
a hardware RAM tester (found it at a garage sale of all places) that will
routinely show RAM as defective that passes all of the software memory tests
that I throw at it.

Go to www.simmtester.com to see what is used to stress test memory under
actual operating conditions.

Re: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA + Winload.exe

BSOH otherwise known as Microsoft's "BLUE SCREEN OF HELL"

If you are unfortunate enough to encounter the following error after a computer crash

page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

Then you're going to need the cd that came with your computer in the case of dell it is called "Operating System windows xp"

Turn ON the computer
keep the F2 button pressed at start up to get into the options menu in Win XP vers.
Make sure the the Boot Sequence is setup to start up the CD drive before the c: drive
Restart the computer and when the cd program asks you whether to install a new copy of win XP or repair the files Click on Repair

You're computer's Video might get damaged
go to the property option at the desktop by clicking the right mouse button on the desktop screen and clicking properties once in properties click on settings then look to see what the name of the plug and play driver is
go to dell.com and download that driver and install it

ALL YOUR INFORMATION SHOULD STILL BE THERE SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS
(MAKE A COPY OF ALL YOUR MUSIC, VIDEO, DOC, PICTURE FILES AND PUT IT ON A MEMORY KEY A.S.A.P) NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS RE-INSTAL THE WIN XP VERS. DO NOT REPAIR
