pps viewer for vista 64bit

I looked for but was unable to find on either the forums or the Internet
how to configure the PowerPoint Viewer for my new laptop that has the
Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS. I downloaded the program several times and
it simply would not allow me to view .pps files..
Here is what I had to do after going to the MS site and downloading the
PowerPoint viewer. I did not click "save". I clicked "open" and it went
through the motions and loaded it into a temporary folder which is ok.
Then, after going through the "approve" stuff and the rest of the
instructions, I then went to "
Start button>Control Panel>Select "Make a file always open in a
specific program". This will allow you to associate .pps files to be
opened with a specific program. Mine was trying to be opened with the
Windows Media Player and it would not work that way. After you click on
the "Make a file always open in a specific program", you will get a long
list of all of the file types. Scroll down to .pps--not .ppsm or any
other type of pps. Just the .pps. Click on the .pps and it will be
highlightes. Then click on the button at the top that says "Change
Program". You will get a number of programs, one of which is the
Microsoft Power Point Viewer. Click on it. This will mandate that all
.pps file will bI opened by the Power Point Viewer and it will work.
It is quite simple actually. Either write this down or copy it and
follow the directions. A lot of people are having trouble with this and
getting popup windows that tell them that this file cannot be opened and
that you must create a file association. I had no idea how to do that
until I researched it on line. The above is how you do it. That is how
you Associate .pps files with the Power Point Viewer and get to watch
the email files you get. Good luck.
