Can't get into SAFE Mode

Hello, I am using Windows Vista on my desktop computer since couple of weeks now. Due to some reason I need to boot into Safe Mode, but when I restart my computer I press F8 key, seems like my F8 won’t work at that stage. Yeah, it works fine on the desktop after the system gets started completely but not while restarting or getting into safe mode. And as the key is ot working am not able to get the boot options.

Can you guys please tell me if there is any other way of doing the same? Thank you.

Which keyboard are you using ? is it multimedia keyboard? If yes, than you will need to first press “F lock” key to make F8 key work properly. If that dint work, than follow the next step mentioned below:

• Go to Start Menu, type Msconfig, press Enter.
• In the opened system configuration window go to Boot Tab.
• Select Safe Mode option below and press OK.

Now restart the computer and it will boot in safe mode.

That is the correct alternative for Safe Mode, Stuartl, but dint you forget to mention the last step. He must remove the tick from Safe Mode option in msconfig in order to boot in normal mode.

Other than I would like to tell you that in my motherboard, I need to press F8 then F4 and then F8 quickly to get into Safe Mode. Mine is Asus Motherboard. So I guess it also depends on Motherboard make and model. You will need to find out if that is the situation for your mobo.

I think you are right rossens, because even F8 dint work on my GENIUS Wireless keyboard. I need to press F5 to get in Safe mode.

But if in your case it is not working then keep tapping F11 to bring up the System Recover menu first, highlight the OS and then I guess F8 will work. BTW, is it any OEM branded system or you have assembled it on your own?
