System Volume Information

Hello everyone,
Found it in my D drive ....... System Volume Information.
I think I know what it is. However, I'd like to hear it from people who
really know.
Also, should it be on D drive, my recovery partition ?
Thank you.

The System Volume Information is for your System Restore. No, you should not
be monitoring your D: drive. Turn it off on that drive.

Malke, thanks for this info. Please fill me in on something. On my
machine system volume information folders show up all over the place,
even on external drives that contain only user data and are not included
in restore points. Can you educate me about this?

Hello Malke,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, you should not
be monitoring your D: drive. Turn it off on that drive.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the crazy part. I never turned it on.
Anyway, now that it is there, can I just delete it ?
Thank you.

The best source of information about System Restore is MVP Bert Kinney's
site. Start here:

http://bertk.mvps.org/html/vista.html

Use the drop-down menu on the webpage to get to other articles about System
Restore.

As I already said, turn off System Restore monitoring on that drive. Reboot
and the file will be gone.

Hello Malke,
Monitoring turned off, system rebooted. System Volume Information is
still in the D: drive.

You should be able to delete it then. If not, see if Bert Kinney's pages
have anything to say about it.

I have an XP Pro/ Vista Ultimate 64 bit dual boot, and
although I have the System Restore Services disabled
in both OSs, the SVI folders still appear in drives.
