Vista Home Premium does not retain network password

This is windows vista laptop connected with few other computers on the same network. I’m able to access other shared folders and files by entering username and password. But the problem is every time I restart the computer I need to put that username and password again and every time. I don’t know why logon credentials are not getting stored under Manage network password. Surprisingly I’m also not able to store it manually because Windows access credentials are grayed out.

Any help will be appreciated.

I don’t know its solution personally but while searching for the same on web I found a guy saying that you can do this by making some changes in registry. But before you do this changes make sure to backup the entire registry for safer side. Here is what you need to:

System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
Value Name: DisableDomainCreds
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = enable storage (default), 1 = disable storage)

You are not alone with this problem friend, there are many more with Vista facing this problem including me. Even am facing the same problem with FTP login and password on my Vista Home Premium though I have ticked the ‘save password’ box. I’m thinking to degrade back again to Windows XP. I never had such annoying problems on my XP in the period of last 8 years.
