Vista notebook cannot print on XP Shared printer

Dear All,

I am very frustrated in setting up my new Vista notebook printing function.
Could anybody help me??

My situation is :

I have a home network with one desktop running XP Home, attached to a
wireless router by CAT5 cable and a local Epson printer. The Epson printer
was shared as a network printer.

I have another NEC notebook, which accessing the network very fine through
the WiFi, and can print properly.

I just purchased a new Sony notebook that run Vista Business. I set up the
network as follows :

Workgroup : checked and was the same as my desktop
Network : Private
Printer sharing : On
File sharing : On

I can see my desktop in the network map. The notebook can browse the
internet by using IE without any problem.

However, I cannot add the network printer. I choose "Add new printer", and
choose "add new network printer", the result is no network printer found.

I also try to add new local printer, and build a new port, and key in my
shared printer location "\\Zeeman_Desktop\ZeemanEpson", but got the response
that the port is not correct.

I am really frustrated. Who can help me?

More information :
XP Desktop : Windows XP Home service pack 2
Antivirus and Firewall on the XP Desktop : Trend Internet Security 2008
Wireless router : Level One WBR-3408
Sony Vaio TZ-17GN, running Vista Business
Antivirus and Firewall on the Sony notebook : Symantec Norton Internet
Security 2007
Printer : Epson CX3500, connecting to the XP Desktop by USB cable.

RE: Vista notebook cannot print on XP Shared printer

Everytime that you add another computer to the Network, you have to run the
XPs Home Network file and Printer sharing wizard again, as the NEW computer
is not in the Wizard's original setup for the network.

Running the Network Setup Wizard on XP enables sharing on all of the
XP computer's printers. But you don't have to run the Network Setup
Wizard. You can make all of XP's network settings (including printer
sharing) manually, without running the Wizard.

On Vista, click the XP computer in Network Map. That should open a
window showing XP's shared printers.

Then, open Vista's Printer folder and drag the desired printer into it
from the XP window. If it asks for a driver program, go to Epson's
web site and download it.

BTW, I use Start > Network to view other computers. That takes fewer
clicks than using the Network Map.

Re: Vista notebook cannot print on XP Shared printer

I did try to open the Network Map on my Vista notebook. I can see my XP
Desktop connecting the network, but I cannot see any printer connecting the
XP Desktop in the Network Map.

I use to mouse cursor to point the XP Desktop, and I try to right click to
get the information of the XP Desktop, I was not able to do so. The right
click menu just did not appear.

Re: Vista notebook cannot print on XP Shared printer

Finally I solve the problem by uninstall the Norton Internet Security. After
I uninstall the Norton, I can see the network printer in the Network Map.
Now I installed Trend Internet Security in my Vista Notebook and seems do not
have any problem.

I am having a similar issue. I have a windows vista home premium
laptop hooked up wirelessly to a Sony Vaio Desktop running XP Home. I
was getting an error before because it said that their wasn't enough
resources on the server or something like that. I increased the
IRPStackSize in the registry, and moved the paging file to another
drive because the C Drive was getting full. This allowed me to access
the shared drives and printer on the xp machine from the vista
machine. I was able to install the printer, but am unable to print to
it from the Vista machine. The printer is an HP Deskjet 960c. I tried
test pages from both machines. It worked from the XP machine, but not
Vista. Any suggestions?
