Internet connection sharing - Vista and XP

I am running a Windows Vista machine on a computer that is connected to a cable modem and on computer that is running XP. This 2 machines are connected through a wired network with the help of a hub and no router. So, I was able to get the file and printer sharing to work properly. I odtain an ip address automatically on the general tab on both computers under TCP/IPv4 and use an alternate configuration with a static IP address. On the Vista pc, I already check marked the allow box under ICS but still I am not able to access the internet on Windows XP? Can anyone help? Thanks

It seems to me that this issue is because of obtaining an IP address automatically on the general tab and use an alternate configuration with a static IP address. Can you try to post back with the result of the ipconfig/ all that might give us some details.

Re: Internet connection sharing - Vista and XP

I was told that I have to assign an IP address to the home computer that I have because I am not using a router, but a hub instead and it was working properly before installing the new Vista. But, when I just assign an ip address then I am not able to access the internet even on Vista. Below are the ipconfig results:

Re: Internet connection sharing - Vista and XP

It seems to me like your Vista is the HOST of ICS and the XP machine is the client. You can try on the XP machine to go to Start >> My network Places >> Network setup wizard >> and use that you get XP machine to use the Vista machine for Internet Sharing. After doing that you will be able to run an ipconfig/ all command and then check whether your local NIC card has an ip address of 192.168.0.X. Hop this will help you out.
