Networking Between Vista and XP

I use a XP Home SP2 desktop as my primary computer and I have recently bought
a Vista Home Premium x32 laptop. I use a Netgear 802.11g router. My main
desktop connects to the router through a hard ethernet line and the laptop
connects wirelessly. I want to enable file sharing between the two computers.
What do I do?

ps. One big problem here is that even though I've installed the LLTD hotfix
for my XP computer, it does not show up in the Network folder/control panel
while I CAN see it in the Networking and Sharing Center's full network map.

How to give Permissions are there, too.
If you are running Norton, etc’s Firewall, check its settings.

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be
asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer
from an XP computer.

Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard.

I have tried a bunch of changes to get my Vista to display the other
computers and devices. Finally, discovered that it was firewall conflicy
between Windows firewall and Norton firewall that is blocking the network
communication.

After disabling the Noton's firewall, all the other computer on my network
appeared.
Try it and hopefully it works for you too...Good Luck.
