    Printer sharing-access is denied

I am having various PCs including a Dell Laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1. It is connected on a Wireless network which is also having 2 windows XP desktops and a lexmark P4350 all in one printer. Vista system is having Windows Firewall on with Norton 2008 Antivirus.

The problem am facing is, other two XP systems can access the printer fine, without any problem or error. But Vista cannot print/access the printer. It is able to see the printer but cannot access. I checked all settings, windows file and
printer sharing is enabled. I updated Lexmark drivers on Vista but no help.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    RE: Printer sharing-access is denied

Did you confirmed that Norton is not running its firewall? I have seen systems running Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro etc use to run their firewall in background. Hence you need to enable file and printer sharing through their firewall manually. Once done, go to Vista Network and Sharing center and correct these settings:

    Network Discovery: ON
    Network set to Private
    File Sharing: ON
    Public Folder Sharing: ON
    Password Protected: OFF

See if you are able to access the printer.

How to add an XP-printer to your Vista laptop (wireless)

    All,

Here is a solution to the problem.

I have an XP desktop with a USB printer directly connected to it. I could "see" that printer from my new Vista laptop (Dell) via wireless, but I kept getting the "Access Denied" message when I tried to add the printer to my laptop.

Here is what I did to solve the problem.

I set up the printer on my Vista laptop as a local printer instead of a network printer. To do this, start by going to the XP computer that the printer is connected to and jot down the computer name (not computer description) for that PC. Then find the print sharing name for the printer, under the sharing tab on properties.

Then, add a printer on the Vista laptop. When prompted, select local printer, local port. Type the \\computername\printer values, using the names you recorded earlier.

    Good luck.
