| Vista Ultimate: Wireless network connection problems and slow internet access I have some problems at the moment. I have a Dell Inspiron PC, with a G-link USB wireless adapter (DWL-G132) and a wireless router (Netgear DG834GT). I also had a Netgear WPN111 USB adapter but it was horrible, kept dropping connections. Anyway, the issues I have are: 1) Upon startup, the adapter does not automatically connect to the router. I have to spend the first 5-10 minutes getting it to firstly see my router and then connect to it 2) Once connected, the connection is patchy, that is, I click on a URL, sometimes the response is immediate, sometimes it pauses for maybe 10-15 seconds before the page appears. I also get timeouts when using iTunes and other apps. So performance-wise, I'm having a major problem. This is further characterised when I'm downloading. I'll see a burst of incoming traffic, then a pause, then another burst, then a pause, and so on. Under XP it was constant. 3) Using the Netgear WPN111 adapter, I also had the additional issue of it just dropping it's connection to my router, with the only resolution being either a unplug/replug of the adapter or a complete reboot of the PC. After 24 hours, no sign of this with the D-link - here's hoping. I've seen lots of articles and web pages abour Vista wireless networking issues, but none that seem to reflect what I'm experiencing. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very appreciative. In the meantime, the search goes on. Cheers, Pete |

Netgear has had heaps of hassles with their Wireless NIC Cards since Vista came out. I rang them in Feb, and their answer was maybe updated Drivers in May. I went back to Cat5. |

Pete: If you are looking to buy a new router to work with Vista Ultimate, I can tell you that the Buffalo Wireless-N Nfiniti Dual-band Gigabit Router (Model WZR-AG300NH) is Certified for Windows Vista, and has been working flawlessly with my new HP laptop PC with Vista Ultimate (64-bit). The router broadcasts simultaneous A and G wireless networks (it also has draft-N capability, but my laptop only has an ABG adapter), and my laptop is able to connect flawlessly. It has very strong signal strength and I can switch between A and G networks anywhere in my house. It also has the latest WPA2 security, SSID encryption and MAC address security features. This is one of the very few routers that actually has the Certified for Windows Vista logo (which represents the fact that it has successfully passed rigorous testing of all Vista functionalities). Check the Vista hardware compatibility list for routers at http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Pro...=v&cid=712&g=d The only downside is that this router is rather expensive at $250. |
