    Vista laptop refusing to connect to Access Point

    I have a pretty small setup at home which is Telsey CPVA 500 router with DLink DWL-G700AP access point. Few Xp computers are running fine with this access point wirelessly as well as with Ethernet cable. Now talking about my Vista, it can connect the network if connected with Ethernet cable but it won’t connect at all on wireless. Whenever I try connecting it on wireless network, it says:

    “Root cause:
    Windows cannot connect to "blackhorse"
    Wireless association failed due to an unknown reason.

    Detailed root cause:
    802.11 connection failed due to status code 1: unspecified failure”

    As Xp laptops are connecting fine, its sure there is no problem with the router, right? Then why my Vista is not able to connect this router? One more think, my laptop is able to connect my neighbors wireless network, but not just mine. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Vista laptop refusing to connect to Access Point - orrca

    I have tried out everything you have mentioned above but i am still not able to connect to the access point and i am still getting the same error message. By now i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Wireless adapter quite a few times but that's simply not making any difference in my case. I don't think there is anything wrong with the Wireless adapter or its driver as i don't have any issue in connecting to the internet. Please let me know if there is any other solution that i can try out, i want to fix this issue as soon as possible.

    I was running in to similar issue previously and later i found that there was something wrong with BROADCAST flag in DHCP discovery packets. The only thing that helped me was setting the below entry as follows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

    Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag
    Value type: REG_DWORD
    Value data: 0

    After that i had to remove PCI Wi-Fi card and reseat it. Just make sure that you are installing the latest available driver for the same.
