I have a similar issue with vista. I have 5 pcs on a hard network and a new laptop with vista accessing a wireless hub. I can get to the internet fine, but it doesn't SEE the other PCs on the network. The only way my laptop can see the pcs on the network and visa versa is I have to plug a network cable into the laptop. "Sen [MSFT]" wrote: > Scott/DC187, > 1. wittman, 1. Can you please confirm that you don't see your XP PCs in Network Map unless Vista is connected through ethernet cable? 2. What is the error message displayed in Network Map when Vista is connected wirelessly? Thanks, Sen. "wittman" wrote: > I have a similar issue with vista. I'm having a very similar problem. I believe I have everything set up right. I have network discovery on and I'm on a private network but when I click view full map it gives me the message "Windows cannot create a network map for the selected type of network connection." Any ideas? "scottpen" wrote: > I believe I have tried everything to get Network mapping to work (which I > can't) When I press View full map all I get is Windows cannot create the > network map. Easy fix: you need to install the Link Layer Topology Discovery on all XP machines. | RE: View Full Map for Network Map
I had this very same problem and what caused the problem in my case was I had installed the latest nvidia ethernet driver (v65.55). As soon as I rolled back to the driver Ethernet driver that Vista installed during installation, all was fine again and I could draw a full network map. Just found this post so I hope this is not too late and of some help :) "scottpen" wrote: > I believe I have tried everything to get Network mapping to work (which I > can't) When I press View full map all I get is Windows cannot create the > network map. I had this same problem and the issue was caused by nvidia Ethernet Driver. I had installed the latest Nvidia Ethernet Driver (65.55) and as a result Vista was not able to draw the network. I rolled back to the driver Vista installed originally and all was again fine. I can draw the full network map. just fine. Hope this works for you:) -- megatonone "scottpen" wrote: > I believe I have tried everything to get Network mapping to work (which I > can't) When I press View full map all I get is Windows cannot create the > network map. I changed "Priority & VLAN" (it is on the Advanced tab of the "nForce Networking Controller Properties") to "Priority & VLAN disabled" and ... voila! I can still use driver 65.55 and I have the network map :-) -- Rafa Fitt |

Rafa...Thanks very much for posting back with a solution. Have you noticed any other effects from disabling "Priority & VLAN"? I'll try it on my Vista machine and see how it works. Now when I try to draw a network map I get the message: "Network mapping is disabled by default on domain networks. Your network administrator can use Group Policy to enable mapping." Chris |

I recently upgraded to version 67.5.8.0 of the nForce Ethernet drivers and lost the ability to view a network map. After following the instructions above to change the Priority & VLAN settings to disabled, I received the same group policy message 'Network mapping is disabled by default on domain networks.' To correct, I enabled the group policy: Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Link-Layer Topology Discovery -> Turn on Mapper I/O (LLTDIO) driver” and enable the “Allow operation while in domain” option. Detailed instructions can be found here: http://blogs.msdn.com/wndp/archive/2..._5F00_map.aspx The mapping worked when I first installed Vista using the old nForce Ethernet drivers but after any upgrade in driver level, the ability to show a network map stopped working. With this fix, everything works fine! In short: 1) Device Manager, Network Adapters, NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, (right-click) Properities, Advanced, and changed Priority & VLAN to 'disabled'. 2) Group Policy Editor (START / RUN... / gpedit.msc), Local Computer Policy,> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Link-Layer Topology Discovery -> Turn on Mapper I/O (LLTDIO) driver” and enable the “Allow operation while in domain” option. (If not in domain, then choose the other options if required...) Cheers, Daniel |

| LLDP Responder
I had similar problems... the 2006 LLDP responder file did not work with SP3. I found on Microsoft TechNet a hotfix which works with XP Pro SP3... Installed it and now my XP machine shows on the Vista network map... Yeah ! Should not be so hard however.... Sorry... here is the link (http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Window...U_i386_zip.exe) You may have to request this from msoft as they send it password protected Last edited by hshlevin : 12-08-2008 at 04:50 AM. |
