Make sure inside of of your ***network connection (eg Local Area Connection 2
for me...) -> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties -> Advanced -> WINS ->
NetBios Setting -> Default*** is properly selected. This will enable the
systems to talk to each other IF EVERYTHING ELSE LISTED ABOVE IS CORRECT. If
all the above is correct, and this IS NOT, it will NOT be able to talk
between any of the devices, EVEN IF they are on the same Workgroup. Simple
fix.

Re: Mixed Vista/XP with wired/wireless Network Trouble

I have a similar network: XP on a desktop PC, printer connected to the desktop PC via USB, laptop connected via wireless (MSHOME) network.

I can access all files/folders on the desktop PC from the laptop PC.
I can access all files/folders on the laptop PC from the desktop PC.

I cannot print from the laptop PC to the printer connected to the desktop PC.

I have the printer marked as "shared".
I have downloaded and installed a 64-bit driver for the printer.

When I try to access the printer from the laptop PC I get a message saying the correct printer driver is not installed. When I try to print to the printer from the laptop PC the print job queues up but I get an error message for that job.

I've about given up on solving this problem. Unless someone has any new ideas, I'll probably just prepare documents on the laptop PC and move the file to the desktop PC to print it.

Many Vista printer issues can be fixed by adding the printer as local
printer first and then remap it as network printer. This search result may
help.

Re: Mixed Vista/XP with wired/wireless Network Trouble

My problem was solved after uninstalling Windows Live Oncare and
reinstalling Norton 360. After that, I could do everything. It is all about
the right configurations of the PC'c and firewalls and not letting Microsoft
decide what is best. Better to do it all manually.

Eric,

Thank you so much! I had the same problem and I used what your method and it worked beautifully! I did run \\192.168.x.x and like I said it worked great!
