| Network via FireWire
Can I set up network of two computers with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Home Basic with FireWire? How both systems will detect connection of two computers with FireWire cable? Does that connection make possible file exchange? -- Kamil Szmit |

Hi Firewire is Not really a Network medium and thus there are Not Network devices available for it. You can set two close by computers for direct connect (kind of a substitute for crossover connection), but that is as far as it can go. So if you are talking about Only two computers you can try. You could provided you have the firewire network driver on each system. That allows using it like any other network interface. But I seem to recall various problems with drivers. Enough to make it not worth the hassle, or expense of paying for 3rd party drivers. -Bill |

I have computer with Intel Desktop Board DP965LT and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 System. FireWire is registered in Device Manager as Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. I would like to purchase Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V6505 (http://docs.fujitsu-siemens.com/dl.a...8-be98cfbd0fd9) with FireWire and Microsoft Vista Home Basic system. Will I connect it with FireWire cable and send files from one computer to another? How systems will detect connection? -- Kamil Szmit "Bill Kearney" wrote: > > "Kamil Szmit" <szmitek@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:3D521D74-3D3A-4CC0-A261-902E036CA5B2@microsoft.com... > > Can I set up network of two computers with Windows Server 2008 and Windows > > Vista Home Basic with FireWire? I do not know why you insist on limiting your self to Firewire. It does not make sense to base a network on Firewire especially with a server. However to each his own :D. Maybe this can Help, http://www.weethet.nl/english/network_firewire.php Jack (MS, MVP-Networking) "Kamil Szmit" <szmitek@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:598F3BBC-3387-43ED-A74B-764E148FFE08@microsoft.com... >I have computer with Intel Desktop Board DP965LT and Microsoft Windows >Server > 2008 System. If the driver software is present and working (which is questionable) then it's just one more network interface. From that point forward it's just like any other network activities. Others have advised just using ethernet. Can you offer why you're rejecting this advise and insisting on Firewire? -Bill Kearney |
