Sharing USB WiFi card between Vista and XP

Hello all,

Here is the deal, I have a USB WiFi 38dB antenna w/ built in card that
connects to my office high speed connection via Linksys 54G router and
9dB onmi antenna. I connect over 500 yards with 99% signal strength.

I want to connection share it with my wifes laptop via crossover CAT5
cable.

Any suggestions? I know I have to share the USB device but it wont
work; seems like I need to assign IP address'

Hi
It is impossible to answer since it is Not clear what the USB device is.
Please post the name an model and describe how it is connected to the
computer.
In general sharing a connection in an absence of a Router locally is by
using Windows ICS.

Re: Sharing USB WiFi card between Vista and XP

My post is detail deficient because I am not computer proficient, just
willing to learn.

Here is the WiFi antenna I use: 'Wireless Adapter --- USB Adapter'
(http://www.superpass.com/SuperUSB-A20.html) It is a stand alone
antenna with wifi card built in and connects via USB 2.0 to my Vista 64
Dell Insperion 530.

I want to share it with the wifes laptop XP via a CAT5 crossover cable.
I just dont know how to share a USB connection. The manufacturer says
it is possible but doenst give specific advice.

Since my network is WPA secured, I wonder if the laptop will have it's
own IP address and how will trying to use a shared connection and
entering the same WPA password on both machines.

Re: Sharing USB WiFi card between Vista and XP

Hi
Wireless USB adaptor behaves like a regular Network adaptor as far as the
host PC is concerned.
The laptop would connect to the Host PC via cable thus Wireless security is
Not an issue.
Beside the Wireless USB you need a wired Network card on the Host PC too.
Configure ICS between the Wireless card, the second Network card, and the
Laptop.
ICS would maintain it own IPs as a second Routing to the main connection.

I will work on this as soon as I get some time. I'm sure the problem
is I havnt set IP addresses.

Thanks! I'll post more as the head scratching continues.
