Vista Suddenly lost "DNS"?, + network issues..

Dear Techies out there - Please give me your help!

Last saturday, oct 25 - 08, everything was fine! - sunday morning I had a problem...

1. Apparently, my Vista Home Basic had restarted after an update, now I could not access the internet. The other devices on my home network could access just fine. It appeared the Vista had screwed up it's(?) DNS somehow and after changing the network settings to use opendns.com I'm back accessing the web. But why? What had changed?

2. Suddenly, I found my other computers, 2 XPs, no longer appear in my network window in Vista. I can access them fine over VNC, so there's no problem through the Router. Also, I run Norton 360 on the Vista and in the "my Home network" setting the other machines turn up, and are trusted devices. WHY can't I find the XPs in Vista all by a sudden?

Also, I remember having a major difficulty setting the network up properly when I first got the Vista. I struggled and did "something" which I can no not remember, to get it working. It might have been something I did on the XP-machines actually. But why would all of this change? The firewall is set to accept the traffic as it should btw....

PLEASE HELP ME! I'm getting physically ill due to this...

Do you receive a system error if running net view \\xpipaddress?
