Dual connection: wired + wireless

Hi all,

I am currently running Vista Business. I have two connections: one
through NIC that access the LAN, which has limited access to the
Internet. The other, through a HSDPA USB modem. This USB modem obviously
cannot connect to the LAN and hence is only for Internet.

What I was wanting to do is connect both of them simultaneously and
access the LAN through NIC and the outside world through USB modem.

The issue I am having is when I connect the USB modem, the LAN
disconnects automatically. Hence, I cannot access the LAN.

Anyway around this?

Thanks

Buy a router and do away with your usb modem

The USB's IP is an External IP given to you by the ISP, the NIC's IP is on a
local private Network IP, they do not talk one to the other.
In order to work together you need between them a Routing mechanism, since
you use USB (No external Routers for USDB) you need to switch On and
configure Windows ICS (which is a software Router).

Have you tried cycling the wired LAN connection after establishing the wireless one? Unplug the wired LAN cable, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

I'm in the middle of debuggging this windows issue right now with XPSP3. Seems whenever the wireless LAN connects (in my case, a builtin wireless in my laptop), Windows forgets to talk out the wired LAN port anymore.. until I cycle the wired LAN connection.

depends how the Network cards are configured, under normal configuration
Windows Applications can talk only to one connection at the time.
