Local Area Connection cable unplugged???

I have a desktop computer on broadband and when I connect to the internet the
red cross turns has been turning into a blue circle to indicate I'm
connected. However for the past week I'm not getting the blue circle, the
red cross remains & when I click on it, it says I'm not connected to any
networks so have clicked on repair and it consistently says I have a Local
Area Connection cable unpluggedl. I have checked all my wiring, nothing is
unplugged, my internet connection is not affected either, all appears to be
working as normal. Can someone tell me what has happened here and whether I
need to worry about it? If I do, can someone tell me what I should do
please. Thanks

Re: Local Area Connection cable unplugged???

Try the following suggestions and please post back with the result.

1. Reset the router.
2. Upgrade the router firmware and NIC driver.
3. Check the network location and make sure it is in private network.
4. Make sure this is not multihomed computer.

Can you tell me what exactly the router is as I don't think I have one. I
have a speedtouch device which the wires are connected to and there are no
buttons or anything like it on the device, just lights which are on and
according to my computer it is functioning properly.

Does the speedtouch device has a new driver?

Re: Local Area Connection cable unplugged???

No it doesn't have a new driver. The only thing I can think of is that I
had updates from Norton & that has messed it up. I found out my IP address
was missing within Norton, found that out & put it in trusted sites, disabled
firewall etc., as well but I still have this red cross and the diagnostics on
the speedtouch say the device is functioning properly and there are no
connectivity problems with this computer. I got other information up which
said local internet had an unplugged cable, hence the red cross, yet I am
connected to my broadband with no problem.
I don't want to dabble too much as if I don't know what I'm doing in case I
lose my internet.

Re: Local Area Connection cable unplugged???

You have been getting software answers. But this sounds like a hardware
problem. I would have assumed you can not get on the internet. But you
asked if you have to worry. If you can get on the internet I wouldn't
worry too much. Often the computer and the box on the other end will
have a little light on them to indicate connection. Do one or both ends
light up when you connect the cable?
Good luck,

Re: Local Area Connection cable unplugged???

I have lights & internet connection, all very strange, all my tests say there
is no network problem on my computer yet there is an explanation mark on a
whole load of router items, the drivers are all up to date, the speedtouch
device and real-tec cable are all functioning as normal but still have this
red cross saying there is a cable unplugged & can't connect to a network. I
only have one computer at home, should I be set up on private or public
network, at the moment its on public but because of this cable unplugged
thing I am not getting any options to change any settings, quite frustrating!!
