Vista Machine Cant Connect To The Internet

Hi Guyz,
I have a Vista machine which was transfered from another office to our offices....
After setting up the computer to our LAN, joining the work group and making all necessary setting(IP, Gateway, DNS) to enable Internet connection. The computer can be seen by other machines on the Network but it cant connect to the Internet.
What could be the problem. There is another Vista Machine on the NEtwork and all the setting are set-up to match, apart from the IP address ofcourse.
I can Ping all machines on the Network, ping the Default geteway but cant ping the DNS

any errors if running nslookup command? Also post the result of ipconfig
/all here may help.

196.201.255.18 as DNS could be the issue. You may try your router (assuming
you have one) as DNS server. Please post back with the result.

As Bob L pointed out, you have a DNS issue. You can't see your DNS
server.

But, more importantly, you need to determine if you can see the
Internet at any level. If you can't then you won't see that external
DNS server for sure.

Can you ping or tracert to your own router or your ISP's first hop? To
test this, go to a system THAT WORKS, and enter the following command:

c:> tracert www.comcast.net (use the domain name of your ISP)

When you get the results they will look like this:

You only need to grab the IP's for the first three hops. The first one
is your own router. The second one is your ISP's first hop, likely a
network routing/connection device of some sort The third one is
typically the first real hop to a machine on your ISP's network.

Write down the IP addresses and go back to the non working machine.
Try to ping each one in order:

EX:

c:> ping 192.168.1.1
c:> ping 10.110.150.1
c:> ping 130.81.110.14

Post the results.

I actually changed the DNS to 4.2.2.2/3 and it worked ok.
Thanks for the Help. I can now try to sort the other DNS Servers.
I will post the Solution when i get it

I've had DNS error issues with my vista64 Home Premium. What I've read
online I thought it could have been my router causing DNS error. So I
tried OpenDNS, tried 4.2.2.3/4. Also tried turning off all sharing (I
believe turning on sharing is why this started) I wrote a keep alive
script to keep server because I thought my ISP was dcing me once ina
while for inactivity. I thought it was the ISP dns server being crappy
(comcast). I tried ipconfig/flushdns, used nsloopup, used traceroute,
and etc... Doing that got my system working temporarily but never
resolved the issue.

It turned out that when I started sharing on my LAN Vista created
another network type layer (I don't know the technical term). Since I
now have two network layer that were not communicating until it timed
out, I always had DNS issues. To fix the issue I right clicked on
Network Icon, clicked on Customize, clicked on Merge or Delete network
Locations, and I merged the two network locations.

This resolve all my DNS issues.

Some of you may be able to resolve this using some other method as I've
mention above, but this worked for me. I'm running Vista 64bit Home
Premium, with WRT160n V2 (ugh, can't use DD-WRT), with Atheros (onboard
from Asus P5Q).

I hope this helps u guys because I spent a few days googling all sorts
of solution and nothing fixed it until I did this.

ok so did wat u said my first ip the router werked then the second i lost all 4 ping then the third werd perfect wat do i need to do next? plzz reply asap
