| ICS xp host+ vista client via wireless router as accesspoint
HI--I have a PC with XP pro connected via Ethernet cable to Netgear 834G . A Laptop is connected to the router via wireless. No problems so far as I have usable network betwen computers and can share files etc. The Xp machine has a dial up connection that I want to share with the laptop via ICS. I changed the IP address of the router as it uses 192.168.0.1 which is what ICS uses. I also disabled DHCP in the router. I ran the network connection wizzard in XP and set up ICS . My latop appears to have been allocated an IP address by the XP machine and I have got an established network for the computers . I manually establish the dialup connection on the XP machine but when I go to use the internet via the laptop there is no apparent connection. How do I get the client Vista laptop to get the internet connection?? Have I overlooked something in the router setup -- thanks in advance for any help Peter |

All is now working. I noticed that the Wirless adaptor had not been allocated an IP address or DSN address. Whilst "meesing about" I turned off the firewall in the Host PC Lan adaptor then rebooted everything and all worked !!!. I have now get a bit more knowledges of the "black art" of networking in Vista and routers. Thanks again for your input Peter "pafos" wrote: > Hi Bob > This is the host Xp Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] > (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. > > C:\Documents and Settings\Cordelia Preece> > C:\Documents and Settings\Cordelia Preece>ipconfig /all > > Windows IP Configuration > > Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : tom001 > Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : > Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown > IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes > WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No > > Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 6: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : TechniSat DVB-PC TV Star PCI #2 > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-D0-D7-12-34-6D > Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes > Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes > IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.178.3 > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : > DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.178.1 > Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 15 August 2008 14:55:09 > Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 28 December 2008 19:28:13 > > Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast > Ethernet A > dapter (rev.C) > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0D-88-B3-EE-39 > Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No > IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : > > > Here is the Vista client connected through the routerMicrosoft Windows > [Version 6.0.6000] > Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation.
