I can receive e-mail, but can't send.

I've been battling an e-mail problem for quite some time, with little
success. The below error presents itself, I've tried every available
solution I ould find online, diabled firewalls, e-mail scanning,
contacted my ISP etc..zero results. REcipt of e-mail is fine, I just
cannot send, any thoughts out there?? Any repiles would be appreciated.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'Home', Server: 'smtphm.sympatico.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I can't get on the site to check since I don't have an account but you do.
The 25 port setting looks wrong. It should be in the hundreds.

Follow the set up instructions here, though described as for OE, it is the
same for WM.

Re: I can receive e-mail, but can't send.

You might want to open a command window, create a Telnet session and talk
directly to the server
Telnet
o smpthm.sympatico.ca 25
then used these dialogs:
http://www.the-welters.com/professional/smtp.html
All we are checking for is access, server name, port#
Don't go too deep with this.

Your settings look good to me.
Some antivirus programs can't cope with secure (SSL) mail.
Be sure to disable any email scanning in your antivirus.
If that doesn't fix it, temporarily uninstall the antivirus, reboot
and try Windows Mail again. Does it work now?

Re: I can receive e-mail, but can't send.

socket error 10060

This problem can also happen in Windows Mail on Vista and the email client will not work at all. Yes, quite annoying.

Carefully double check everything. Make sure you are not putting in @ insted of .

Use smtphm.sympatico.ca not smtp1.sympatico.ca And use port 587 not 25

Use pophm.sympatico.ca not pop1.sympatico.ca And use port 995 not 110

Thank You very much, Bell obviously can't figure it out or post the right settings after they've change them, this should help everyone and maybe get on to this great forum.
Some others want me to change mail clients when in fact that was never the problem.
