Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I can neither send nor receive e-mails on my account which was just set up,
here is the error messages I get verbatim:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test Message.', Account:
'pop-server.tampabay.rr.com', Server: 'smtp-server.tampabay.rr.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'pop-server.tampabay.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.tampabay.rr.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number:

RE: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I....suddenly....cannot send. Cannot think of anything I've done to change
this. Worked until a couple of days ago. Similar error message as edthanet:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Is it my breath?',
Account: 'pop.netzero.com', Server: 'authsmtp.netzero.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Deleted my mail account. Set it up again per Netzero's
instructions...again...can receive, but not send. Very frustrating. Tried
System Restore...no joy there either. Sent an email using Netzero's "Message
Center" no problem, so it must be me...not them........

Is NetZero your ISP as well as your email provider?
Were you sending from home, using your NetZero connection
when that error message happened?

Re: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Yes, Netzero is my ISP and email provider, and I am trying to send from my
desktop at home. The only thing I can think of, is that I gave Roboform a try
last week. I uninstalled it after a few days, but maybe it has altered some
setting, somewhere, that is preventing me from sending. I have tried both
"Outgoing Mail Server"...'My server requires authentication'...checked and
unchecked. No difference. The McAfee settings appear to be the same as they
were before this problem started.....I have "scan outgoing" mail
diasabled....

Re: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

"McAfee" is the clue I needed.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I have the same problem. I am running Notron AV 2007. I have had it for a year and the problem only poped up in the last 2 weeks. I know it is compatible and is not causeing the problems. I have uninstalled it and it did not work. Any other ideas other then uninstalling my paid subscription and downloading a free version.

It is NOT a Symantech or Macafee error. It is a Windows issue. I did a factory image restore on my Dell Inspiron 1501 and reinstalled Norton anti-virus 2007 and am no longer haveing a problem. I think Microsoft and Symantech and Mcafee need to get togther and take a look at the registry entries created and how the 2 programs interact with one another. Don't always do the first thing the first person tells you. They may not always be right and they may make the problem worse.

Not always. I AM running Norton Anti-virus 2007 and it works just fine. Like I said I think Microsoft needs to take a look at the whole program including the registry.

Gary VanderMolen is on the right track. When I finally contacted my ISP they
told me to turn of the Norton firewall as well as incoming and outgoing
e-mail scanning and it worked, problem solved.

Most of the third party security software causes problem with
Windows Mail, especially the McAfee and Norton products.

Re: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Hello. :) I have been getting the same error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: How Do???',
Account: 'loriwise@live.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

....and followed the previous instructions by uninstalling McAfee,
installing the avast you recommended, turned off the outgoing email
scanning, and yet I still have an email in my outbox that will not send.

Please help. I also have a gmail and a comcast email account in my
Windows Mail that are sending and receiving just fine. It's just an
email I am trying to send from the loriwse@live.com (which I had hoped
to use as my primary email) that refuses to send. :(

I greatly appreciate any other assistance you may be able to provide
me.

Re: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

It is always best to set your most reliable email service as
the primary, and Live.com/Hotmail ain't it. ;-)
So much for sermonizing...
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced.
Change the SMTP port number from 25 to 587.

Re: Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Thank you for the port change information. Changing from 25 to 587
worked for me. How could I have known this change took place? It
would be nice to get some kind of notice via email.
