Why would I want to? Well, I do not use the program at all. I am trying to fine tune the performance of my new pc and winmail.exe just sits in the background taking up space. Unless you have actively configured your system to start Windows Mail ie. added a shortcut to the Startup Folder, it is not started by the system and therefore does not take up space apart from it's presence on your hard drive which is not a performance issue. If you have added its shortcut to the Startup Folder simply delete it. A useful tool for tuning your PC is the Autoruns utility... http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../AutoRuns.mspx Install the utility and you will give yourself the opportunity to fine tune what does get loaded at IPL time, ie. identify and disable the junkware that PC manufacturers are paid to include even though it may be detrimental to the perfomance, stability and security of your system. > "Julian" wrote: > >> >> >> "tedplane" <tedplane@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:84885554-1D9D-4335-B288-EF14A0458D5E@microsoft.com... >> > Is it possible to uninstall Windows mail? >> >> No. >> >> Why would you want to? >> |

I beg to differ. My startup folder is totally empty. And yet Winmail.exe still shows in Taskmanager. It is taking up 3,942 K of memory (private working set.) I have a screen shot of this if you would like to see it. The Startup folder is not the only place where programs are started. Download autoruns and find out where winmail.exe is getting the start command. -- Ronald Sommer "tedplane" <tedplane@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:34AD2C12-541F-402E-A437-BBF3A47355F5@microsoft.com... :I beg to differ. You could try renaming WinMail.exe, or its folder.
