Cannot import Microsft Outlook PST file into Windows Mail

I just installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop which was running with Ubuntu earlier. The problem is with Windows Mail. I am having a backup of Outlook in pst file which was running on Windows XP system. When am trying to import the same in Windows Mail, I get an error message saying:

“Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client”

Though I installed Office 2007 on this system but I’ve selected on Word, Excel and PPT from the suite, no outlook. So now can anyone suggest me what should I do ? How can I run my pst backup in Windows Mail on Vista ?

Am not sure but I have read somewhere that Windows Mail supports .CSV format. So what you can do is, on your older machine export the PST data to CSV format (use google for doing the same). Now move that .csv file to Vista desktop and import the same in Windows mail. Should work.

I have never heard that csv work with Windows mail. I have experienced the same issue couple of months ago and managed to get it done successfully. What I did was though I was having Outlook installed on my XP, I installed Outlook Express and imported all messages and mail from outlook to Outlook Express and later created backup from Express in .DBX format. Windows Mail use to import dbx format very easily.

So I just moved the dbx file on vista and imported it with Windows Mail Import Option. Its very easy and simple.
