The best thing to do is ignore them. If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it. First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no instances of it under applications or processes. Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files. In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search button. It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail. WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are really there. Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders. |

| Re: Cannot delete an item in my inbox,
Sending the same message more than once seldom gets you help any faster. Unknown error and undeletable files in Windows Mail are usually due to interference from an antivirus program, antispyware program, or antispam program. What if any such programs do you have? For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first. The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer to install |

This will help show you how to fix the stuck undeletable email message problem in Windows Mail for all folders. The KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You must stop the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the "First" section in this tutorial about antivirus programs to help prevent this from happening again, then install the KB941090 Microsoft Update in the "Second" section to fix the stuck message problem. move all your messages to another folder. locate your inbox file and delete it. That should do it Try deleting the e-mail above and the one below whatever it is you are trying to get rid of |

One can just disable the preview pane (View | Layout) and then highlight and delete. I drug the offending e-mail to the trash folder and emptied the trash and it worked! |
