Error Loggin on the Windows Mail

I am trying to setup windows mail, did all settings but whenever I try to logon to Windows Mail, it gives me an error message saying:

“Account: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18”

Somebody please help.

I have been through exact same error code earlier on my Vista with Windows Mail. So as per my experience error code 0x800xxx90 and 0x800CCC18 are related to passwords. You might have entered wrong password in any of your mail POP3 account. In my case I just changed my passwords, restarted windows mail and everything worked fine. You can give it a try too.

The first thing you need to check is Authentication is enabled when the ISP's email server doesn't need it. If they don’t have Windows Mail settings, ask them for Outlook settings because WM works with the same settings as Outlook.
