My system is COMPAQ HP 7700p with Vista is one week old. The CD disk drives
stopped working "device cannot start (error 10)".

I have tried to update driver but it is uptodate. Have tried to restore

Re: CD ROM DVD ROM drives problem

Hi Meron,

By chance do you have iTunes installed on your computer? For some
unknown reason it has been known to cause problems in Vista with the
CD/Dvd drivers. Try uninstalling iTunes for a fix.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: CD-DVD ROM drives disappearing (beware of iTunes!)

I have had the problem mentioned above with the CD ROM twice, where the CD
drive suddenly disappears, and device manager shows it with an exclamation
mark saying that the "drive cannot start (code 10)"
Both times this problem was cause by iTunes. As soon as I uninstalled it and
restarted the system, the CD ROM was back.
If your problem sounds the same as mine, try that!

Double-click on Help and Support (outside Windows Mail) and do a search
for uninstall. This should help lead you to a list of programs you can
uninstall.
