If you can't delete that stuck message in the outbox, you should try Steve's new edition of WMUtil: http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/ When you download the file, be sure to choose Save rather than Run. After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will show the extracted folder with two files in it. Run WMUtil.exe, and click Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Try dragging it to the Trash - if that doesn't work, try logging on directly to your email via Internet Explorer (or whatever browser) and see if deleting it there frees it in WM. |

DOES anyone know if Steve's edition of WMUtil really works. I have a brand new laptop with Vista from Hell AND have an outgoing email that I CANNOT delete.. Please tell me this works as I cannot get hold of Microsoft til Monday and that is 3 days without getting or sending emails... I bought this computer in JAN....and did not start using it til 3 weeks ago...So I assume my computer had the orginal problem with outgoing emails NOT being able to be deleted, as it the case with me. PLEASE tell me how to delete these outbox messages as I am not a techie and am New TO THIS...Please, in english and not techie language as I really really need your help. |

The current version works. There was a bug in an earlier version that caused it not to work for some people. So glad its not jsut me!! wots goin on is it cause its thisnew vista dou think? i can sen via yahoo but not 'mail' will it go eventually? xx I am also getting the clear outbox botton greyed out. I have closed mail and also restarted the pc and it is still greyed out. Any advice? After all of your hard work and the words you put on this message board, I got it to work and clear the one item in my outbox. Opinion: This new Vista is a piece of you know what. Support is minimal and so many bugs. Thanks guys for all your work. We are just making MS richer with our dedication. I appreciate this site and the expertise of all associated with it. |

Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc which will bring up the Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and make sure WinMail.exe is not running. If it is, end it. Windows Mail is full of bugs, but don't blame Vista for that. Different programming teams. I think Vista has less bugs than WinXP did at this point. And in the UK, at least, the Vista technical support (phone) is second to none. Try getting help from British Gas! Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 It also works on other folders. This is a great liitle program, it cleared my outbox from this unclearable message and I was able to send messages after that. Open your Outbox and delete the message? ! Yes. Installing Vista SP1 or SP2 will fix it completely. |

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee, or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again. You may need to delete the message after applying the fix oehelp.com WMUtil/ worked for a message stuck in the inbox, also. I clicked the "Repair Database" button. After 5 days of "help" from my service provider, Microsoft, and my computer manufacturer, I was beyond happy to find this quick fix. it worked for you, but you are quoting from a very old post. Microsoft released a newer fix many months ago: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 It is always best to check the latest responses here first, so as to utilize the newest fixes. This often means you need to click on the Outbox, then either move all the messages there to your Drafts folder or delete them. If any refuse to do either, download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in other folders. It may or may not delete the messages causing problems, but should at least make it possible for you to delete them. Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 It also works on other folders. The solution is posted on here at least a dozen times each day... download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 Although it's labeled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works for other folders. |
