Start Windows Mail Click the Tools menu and choose Options... Click the Spelling tab From the Language drop-down, select English (default choice) Click OK Can you list the relevant bug ID for this problem? I'm assuming it exists (or I'm going to go create one). I'd like to track it. It's a very annoying bug for a clean installation of your newest OS. I wish I'd seen and reported it during beta. I don't have a Bug ID for this issue, and also not sure if this was reported earlier. That was rather simple to fix although it was frustrating that I had to even go through the process. Close all WinMail windows. Open WinMail. Click Tools | Options. Oh, looks like you're in Windows Live Mail, not Windows Mail. Same instructions. |

I don't see who you're replying to, but you would need to have a Danish version of Vista or Ultimate to have Danish spell check in Windows Mail, officially anyway. The English version of Vista has English, French, Spanish and German spell checkers available in Windows Mail, with no apparent provision to install other languages. If you upgrade to Windows Live Mail, it is possible to install other languages from Microsoft Office Proofing Tools 2003 or any localized version of Microsoft Office 2003. Check the discussion group microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop for details. There is a fellow in there who claims to have installed Danish spell check into Windows Live Mail. I have installed Portuguese of Brazil myself. I would like to install Portuguese into Windows Mail on Vista, but I haven't figured where it keeps its dictionaries. |

Just accept it as one of quite a few bugs in Windows Mail. If you want a less buggy program, upgrade to WLM: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview This may be able to help you fix this error. |

I know that this is an old thread, but I am responding for others looking for an answer. I had this same issue and looked, as others, for a deep down problem. I ended up going into my windows mail program/tools/options and checked for the 10th time the language setting under Spelling. The language was still set to English. I reset the English and hit "Apply". It worked! My spell check now works beautifully! Try it. It may work! My answer was another unresolved issue of the same from 2007. |

Thanks so much. This fix also works if your using OUTLOOK on VIsta. Still go into Windows Mail and do the same procedure below. Then go back to outlook and it works. Again - thanks so much. |

Open Windows Mail At the top, click on the "tool" tab Click on "options" At the top, click on "spelling" I am going to suggest that you check the box that says "always check spelling before sending" Make sure that the language is "English" or the language of your choice. IMPORTANT: Click the "apply" button. Now check your spelling when you compose a new e-mail. Good Luck :) Where do you find a language drop down Menu - if I had one maybe I could choose it? |

Slightly different from Ramesh's reply. Tools > Options > Spelling. Put a check mark on " Always check spelling before sending " Look further down, under LANGUAGE heading, there is a long rectangular box with a pointer at the far right. Click the pointer, choose a language OTHER THAN English > click APPLY. Click the pointer again. This time choose English > click APPLY/OK |

You can see a screenshot of it here. I still don't know how to change-very few of these hints have worked for anyone! In the main screen of Windows Mail, (not the compose screen), go to Tools, Options, Spelling. First select another language, click Apply. Then reselect English and click OK. |

Windows Mail comes with the language PARTLY set to English, but not enough. To correct this, try to switch to some other language, then switch it back. |
