| MAPI error when attempting to import Outlook pst file to Windows Mail I need to import my pst file from my old Outlook. When I try and import the file using File/Import/Messages/Microsoft Outlook, I get the following error: "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occurred." I've searched and have not seen a solution. Does anyone know of a workaround? |

I am receiving this error, as well. Outlook 2007 is installed. Every result Google throws at me says 'install Outlook', which just makes me giggle a bit. Any leads? May be you have configure Outlook Express to be the default MAPI client.Change your MAPI Settings or reinstall your outlook may solve your problem. May be your pst file get corrupt badly. You can try pst repair software. It is easy to use and provides complete recovery of your corrupted or lost pst file.It supports all the version of outlook. | Re: MAPI error when attempting to import Outlook pst file to Windows Mail
1) Outlook must be installed. No Outlook, no work. 2) Some have reported version older than Outlook 2003 to have some problems with Vista (not just Windows Mail). 3) If you can find a version of Outlook 2003 or above demo, you can install it, use the .pst file you have and then import that into Windows Mail. Another alternative is to import the Outlook messages into Outlook Express on an XP, 2000, 98, Me machine, then copy the DBX files (ALL of them) to the Vista machine and import those into WIndows Mail. |

Since Outlook Express won't run on Windows Vista, how is this information going to help? How can you set OE to be the default MAPI client when it won't even install? No, that error comes from an attempt to import Outlook mail from an Outlook .PST file when Outlook is NOT installed to provide access to the file. |

| Re: MAPI error when attempting to import Outlook pst file to Windows Mail
Many times while importing the PST files to Windows Mail gives Mapi errors. In order to get rid of the MAPI errors, run the MAPI Repair Tool that is there in the MS Outlook. Using the MAPI Repair Tool, check and correct the damaged Mapi32.dll file. Once you do this delete the existing damaged Outlook profile and then create a new one. Restart the Outlook and your problem is solved. If still the problem persists, then the MAPI errors are occuring because your PST files in the Outlook seems to be damaged. The only way to get rid of the MAPI errors is by repairing the damaged PST files. There is a software called Outlook PST Repair that repairs the damaged PST files using sophisticated algorithm and programming methods. |
