I have got Windows Vista on my computer and if I open Windows Mail, which was working properly by displaying all the mail, I now get this error message which says "An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148". Also, it says that the folder cannot be displayed. Any help would be appreciated.

It was suggested that if you are running Norton or McAfee antivirus on your system, then you either need to turn off the email scanning in the antivirus options and if still that doesnt work then you will have to completely remove the antivirus from your computer and use some different ones which is compatible with Windows Mail. Also, it was noted in some news that microsoft will soon release a patch to fix this issue. So, you can try turning on the automatic updates in your computer and ensure that you get every updates from the microsoft servers.

I came across similar error. I am using AVG 2011 and found that when I am scanning the computer error appears and as soon as I stop the scanning the email works ok.

The reason behind this error is nothing but the Anti Virus program which is not behaving properly with the Windows Mail. All you can do is to resolve this issue is to uninstall the AVG 2011 program from your computer and install the Microsoft Security Essential program which is the product of the Microsoft. So if you can then try this out and also let me know about the working of the same.
