| Re: Windows Mail - Importing Outlook Express Mail Hi. I followed the instructions in 'www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm' (http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm) until the end, and everything seems to go smoothly. In step 6 I selected to import messages from all the listed folders (the folders are listed correctly), clicked Import, and imediately I get a message saying that all messages were imported correctly... except that after after opening Windows Mail, the messages are not there! I've repeated this selecting only one folder, but the result is the same. I'm using Windows Vista Beta 2. Has anyone had the same problem or know how to solve this? Thanks. Rui. -- rui.cunha |

| Re: Windows Mail - Importing Outlook Express Mail Hi, Steve. Thanks for your reply. The dbx files were copied from my older PC were I run Outlook Express with Windows XP as my main PC. This PC is having hardware problems so I have to switch to my Vista PC. The dbx files have all my email messages, they're not corrupt and they're not empty. Any other ideas on what might be causing this? I'm running Vista 64 Beta 2. Thanks. Best Regards, Rui. -- rui.cunha |

Its possible you have blank dbx files and there are no messages in the files. steve "rui.cunha" <rui.cunha.2p8gmm@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:rui.cunha.2p8gmm@no-mx.forums.net... > > Hi. > > I followed the instructions in 'www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm' > (http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm) until the end, and everything > seems to go smoothly. Normally, if it doesn't work, it gives an error message. If it says it imported them okay, then I don't know what to think could be the issue. Maybe the 64 bit version. Also with beta 2, there may be many problems as they made many changes to WinMail after that. steve "rui.cunha" <rui.cunha.2p8lv7@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:rui.cunha.2p8lv7@no-mx.forums.net... > > Hi, Steve. > > Thanks for your reply. | I'm having a similiar problem....
Hi, Am trying to import my OE files from my Windows 98 computer (I know, I know, but if it ain't broke...) to my new machine running Vista Home Premium version 6.0 (build 6000). Every time I try to import the .dbx files, I get a "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open". Thought that if I used Outlook, it might work better, but when I try to import into Mail from Outlook, I get "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occurred." Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my ISP is beginning to get annoyed at how many files I have saved on the server using webmail! |

My Windows 98SE machine won't run anymore. I think I remember someone saying that when you import a .dbx file, a certain other .dbx file must be in the same directory as the one you are importing - so you might try importing it from a directory where you have a copy of each .dbx file on the old computer. |

I have exactly the same problem - here in little old New Zealand! I have managed to import my address book ok, but like you the files in my outlook express are .dbx and when i try to import them it says 'no files could be found.....' - same message you are getting. Here is a link that might help, although it didn't work when trying to import messages... http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migra...o-Windows-Mail I can get all my e-mails ok and send / receive, but really need to import the old folders from outlook express into my Windows mail... I've tried almost everything and it is really frustrating... if anyone has a miracle cure, I'd love to know..... and next time you are in New Zealand I'll buy you a drink! many thanks "robertNOSPAMmiles@bellsouthNOSPAM.net" wrote: > > "Connie in Ottawa" <Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message > news:Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com... > > > > Hi, > > > > Am trying to import my OE files from my Windows 98 computer (I know, I > > know, but if it ain't broke...) to my new machine running Vista Home > > Premium version 6.0 (build 6000). > > > > Every time I try to import the .dbx files, I get a "No messages can be > > found in this folder or another application is running that has the > > required files open". > > > > Thought that if I used Outlook, it might work better, but when I try to > > import into Mail from Outlook, I get "Messages cannot be imported from > > the MAPI client. | Re: Windows Mail - Importing Outlook Express Mail
Copy the .dbx files to a temporary folder on the Vista computer. Open Windows Mail File - Import - Messages OE6 import from OE directory when you browse to the folder containing the .dbx files, DON'T OPEN that folder.... just highlight it, and click ok if you open the folder, the path to the files will have a duplicate folder... like c:\temp\temp (if the .dbx files are in \temp) "Nick Lambert" <NickLambert@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B8FBBD89-358C-4D1C-BB41-D3B966D9FBA3@microsoft.com... > I have exactly the same problem - here in little old New Zealand! > I have managed to import my address book ok, but like you the files in my > outlook express are .dbx and when i try to import them it says 'no files > could be found.....' - same message you are getting. > Here is a link that might help, although it didn't work when trying to > import messages... > > http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migra...o-Windows-Mail > > I can get all my e-mails ok and send / receive, but really need to import > the old folders from outlook express into my Windows mail... > > I've tried almost everything and it is really frustrating... > > if anyone has a miracle cure, I'd love to know..... and next time you are > in > New Zealand I'll buy you a drink! > > many thanks > > > "robertNOSPAMmiles@bellsouthNOSPAM.net" wrote: > >> >> "Connie in Ottawa" <Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in >> message >> news:Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com... >> > >> > Hi, >> > >> > Am trying to import my OE files from my Windows 98 computer (I know, I >> > know, but if it ain't broke...) to my new machine running Vista Home >> > Premium version 6.0 (build 6000). >> > >> > Every time I try to import the .dbx files, I get a "No messages can be >> > found in this folder or another application is running that has the >> > required files open". >> > >> > Thought that if I used Outlook, it might work better, but when I try to >> > import into Mail from Outlook, I get "Messages cannot be imported from >> > the MAPI client. Hi Dave - thanks for that. I've tried everything, but still get the same error message "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open". I made sure that the .dbx files are not 'read only' and I am only highlighting the folder they are in, what I try to import them but still no luck..... thanks anyway Nick in New Zealand "Dave" wrote: > Copy the .dbx files to a temporary folder on the Vista computer. > Open Windows Mail > File - Import - Messages > OE6 > import from OE directory > when you browse to the folder containing the .dbx files, DON'T OPEN that > folder.... > just highlight it, and click ok > > if you open the folder, the path to the files will have a duplicate > folder... > like c:\temp\temp (if the .dbx files are in \temp) > > > > > > > "Nick Lambert" <NickLambert@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:B8FBBD89-358C-4D1C-BB41-D3B966D9FBA3@microsoft.com... > > I have exactly the same problem - here in little old New Zealand! > > I have managed to import my address book ok, but like you the files in my > > outlook express are .dbx and when i try to import them it says 'no files > > could be found.....' - same message you are getting. > > Here is a link that might help, although it didn't work when trying to > > import messages... > > > > http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migra...o-Windows-Mail > > > > I can get all my e-mails ok and send / receive, but really need to import > > the old folders from outlook express into my Windows mail... > > > > I've tried almost everything and it is really frustrating... > > > > if anyone has a miracle cure, I'd love to know..... and next time you are > > in > > New Zealand I'll buy you a drink! > > > > many thanks > > > > > > "robertNOSPAMmiles@bellsouthNOSPAM.net" wrote: > > > >> > >> "Connie in Ottawa" <Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in > >> message > >> news:Connie.in.Ottawa.2y5r7d@DoNotSpam.com... > >> > > >> > Hi, > >> > > >> > Am trying to import my OE files from my Windows 98 computer (I know, I > >> > know, but if it ain't broke...) to my new machine running Vista Home > >> > Premium version 6.0 (build 6000). > >> > > >> > Every time I try to import the .dbx files, I get a "No messages can be > >> > found in this folder or another application is running that has the > >> > required files open". > >> > > >> > Thought that if I used Outlook, it might work better, but when I try to > >> > import into Mail from Outlook, I get "Messages cannot be imported from > >> > the MAPI client.
