I have a message like that too and none of the suggestions
has worked for me thus far.

You can try repairing the database. That seems to fix it.

A lot of people are having this problem... I noticed that the messages that
can't be deleted have no message to be displayed in the preview pain..

Has anybody been able to solve this yet? I just got a new computer with Vista
on it yesterday, trying to get used to windows mail. I don't really know
anything about computers, but I was able to use outlook on my old desktop.
Anyway, I am having the same problem deleting a message. "An unknown error
has occured." And I've noticed my message is not displayed either. But
judging by the subject it was just spam anyway. Meh.

I tried repairing the database and received the following error:

Operation terminated with error -1032 (JET_errFileAccessDenied, Cannot
access fi
le, the file is locked or in use) after 30.62 seconds.

What next?

I am in the same boat with these guys! .... For a new fancy whammy dimmy
program (VISTA - Windows Mail) ... It's a shame it doesn't work like XP ..
Now I'm off my podium... How do I fix this mess? .. I too! have an email
locked in my inbox ...
Some of the other threads show how to remove it but it doesn't work
either.....

RE: Can't delete message from folder Inbox

Hello, this is what I found out on how to repair the message store.

First you must navigate to were the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore is located
using a command prompt window.

This is how you do this:

1. Click on start icon in the Task Bar.
2. Under the "All Programs" menu option there is a "Start Search" field,
type in the word "Command".
3. A command prompt window should appear.
4. Type "cd AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail"
5. Now to repair the message store type "esentutl /p
WindowsMail.MSMessageStore"
6. This should repair the message store and the problem should go away.

Please note that if you get the "JET_errFileAccessDenied" error message this
indicates the the Windows Mail process is still running and you need to end
it using the Task Manager.

Also, you can play it extra safe by copying the contents of the Local
Folders directory under the Windows Mail directory into another directory on
your hard drive.

I'm severely frustrated right now. I've spent three hours on the phone today
with Dell and Microsoft as they argued over who should fix my email issues -
the same ones detailed here. No one can come up with anything except that i
should pay $70 to have someone 'diagnose" the problem. I just bought the
computer two months ago, so forget that.

My Outbox has a stuck message also ... I tried changing the message store,
but it doesn't seem to work. I can't delete the stinking email, which is
backing up all my other emails. Dell can't fix it, Microsoft can't fix it,
my ISP can't fix it. So i ask you, WHAT DO I DO NOW? I'm not exactly a
computer whiz, but i can hold my own. But on this, I'm way over my head.

So far, I'm NOT a Vista fan. I'm really rethinking my decision not to buy a
Mac. I just wonder - with all of these posts, not to mention the thousands
of people who don't even know this community exists, why the heck isn't there
a patch?

Seems like a simple solution ...

Which antivirus programs if any do you have? Some of the
common ones, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee
cause various problems in Windows Mail, although seldom
immediately.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for messages stuck in the Outbox,
it also works for other folders. If you don't know
whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version,
try the 32-bit version first.

Try turning off your protection and then delete. If it works, you know
it's all down to the security software.

I downloaded the fix, but it told me that I didn't need it, but I still have
an inbox message that I cannot delete. Any help would be appreciated! thanks

Have you tried both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version? One will
refuse
to install, but there's a chance the other one won't.

If both refuse to install, it may be time to install Vista SP1:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936330

What happens when your try to delete it?
Can you delete it with the Preview Pane turned off?

In Windows Mail, unknown errors and undeletable messages are often
due to interference from an antivirus program, antispyware program, or
antispam program. What if any of these programs do you have, and
have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program installed on
that machine?

You can usually get a temporary fix by downloading and installing this
hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. The Vista SP1 update also provides a temporary fix,
but takes longer to install.

Re: Can't delete message from folder Inbox

This will help show you how to fix the stuck undeletable email message
problem in Windows Mail for all folders.

Installing the KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You
must stop the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the section
titled "FIRST" in this tutorial about antivirus and other security
programs to help prevent this from happening again, then install the
KB941090 Microsoft Update in the section titled "SECOND" to fix and be
able to delete the stuck message from the problem folder.

If this does not help, then give the manual way a try.

I've tried over and over to delete the mail in my Deleted items folder.
Obviously, from what I've read, others are having the same problem. When I
see their messages begging for assistance, I can't read/see any replies.

Use this Microsoft fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
Although it only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

were you able to do that wih spam mail , also in responce to 486 message< I
had to go into my web mail and found 486 messages in my junk e-mail and 687
in my inbox, I think when you have windows mail you still need to tend to
your web mail cause sometimes they don't go thru to windows mail

Note the part in the response that says "Although it only mentions
messages stuck in the Outbox, it will take care of stuck messages
in other folders also."

The options in PROBLEM ONE of the tutorial below can help show you how
to delete these stuck messages in Windows Mail.

Re: Can't delete message from folder Inbox

I ran into this same problem and tried the various fixes here to no avail. What finally did it for me was simply dragging a message from the Inbox to Deleted Items after which I was able to select single or multiple messages and delete them as normal. Hope this helps.
