Can't Open doc or docx files in Windows Mail

I just upgraded to Office Home & Student 2010 and when doc or docx files are emailed to me, I can't open them. I have to save to HD before I can open them. I checked my file associations and they are linked to Word, and I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2010, but I still have this issue. I'm running windows vista Home basic, service pack 2. Any ideas? Everything worked fine until I upgraded to Office 2010.

That be some issue related to email attachment program file association. You can check in Control Panel > Default Programs. In that you can set the extension with associate program. Like docx for microsoft word. So the next time when you open docx or doc file microsoft word will be opened automatically.

I checked and .docx files are already associated with Word. I found a program on winhelponline called docfix, it helped with .doc files but still can't open .docx files. I have to save them to my computer first. Pretty frustrating...
