| Setting up Windows Mail. not receiving all messages from Gmail. Hello, hopefully someone can help me as this has been wrecking me head for the last few days. I've recently changed laptop and am trying to download all my messages from Gmail to Windows Mail (and keep a copy on Gmail too). The problem is that I'm only receiving some old emails from 2005-2006 and nothing newer. There's no error message but there's thousands of messages not being downloaded as well as all my sent messages. I'm using POP3 and all my settings seem to be ok. I've searched this forum for a similar problem but not having much luck. Please can someone help or point me in the right direction. -- sofaking |

Were those emails previously downloaded on a different PC? Gmail POP accounts allow messages to be downloaded only once, unless you jump through some special hoops: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=47948 However, that mode only allows you to go back 30 days. In order to have access to all emails, set the account up for IMAP protocol: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=77696 -- Gary VanderMolen, Microsoft MVP (Mail) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/def...le/vandermolen "sofaking" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:39e2998f3b539d49c86fe318404202e6@nntp-gateway.com... > > Hello, hopefully someone can help me as this has been wrecking me head > for the last few days. > I've recently changed laptop and am trying to download all my messages > from Gmail to Windows Mail (and keep a copy on Gmail too). > > The problem is that I'm only receiving some old emails from 2005-2006 > and nothing newer. | Re: Setting up Windows Mail. not receiving all messages from Gmail. Hi, yes I recently changed laptops and had been successfully using Gmail through Windows Mail on the old one. I tried IMAP but was having big problems with my folders downloading multiple times eg spam, trash, etc. thanks for your help. :sleepy: . | Re: Setting up Windows Mail. not receiving all messages from Gmail.
The problem caused by changing computers is covered by the first part of my previous explanation. It's a Gmail POP account limitation. IMAP on Windows Mail is somewhat buggy. If you want to try the IMAP solution again, I suggest you upgrade to Windows Live Mail: http://download.live.com/wlmail -- Gary VanderMolen, Microsoft MVP (Mail) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/def...le/vandermolen "sofaking" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:33aea25edf86ab8e44ed0bfd45bc578f@nntp-gateway.com... > > Hi, yes I recently changed laptops and had been successfully using Gmail > through Windows Mail on the old one. The only problem is that my sent messages from Gmail have gone missing. I'll have a look in this forum for a solution. Otherwise I'll try WIndows Live Mail as you suggest. thanks. :D -- sofaking |
