| RE: The command failed to execute
This happened to me today for the first time;the attachment was a pdf file. I was able to open the document when I right clicked on the attachment and saved it; went to the saved document and it would open. Even though it's an extra unwelcomed step, I was able to read the document. Obviously you get bitten by the "IE8-WinMail-bug" which affects many system (though not the majority) after having installed IE8. So far no one knows what the reason might be. And so far there is no fix - except uninstalling IE8: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700/en-us Workaround: The problems can be reduced to JPG and TXT files (all other files types opening fine) with a workaround: Right-click on the shortcut that you use to open Windows Mail. Select Properties. In the field labeled 'Start in' change the entered value to %UserProfile%. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail and try opening attachments. HTH Rainald |

Norton AV is not part of the game with the attachment problem Rainald |

Michael, the KB article you pointed to may help in some cases. It's not valid at all for the problem discussed here: There is a "known problem" with attachments which affects many systems (though not all) after installing IE8. There is no fix in so far except uninstalling IE8. Rainald Michael wrote: > Try looking at the following site for info on how to correct this > problem.
