| Attach files saved at System32 Windows folder!? (and missing)
Hello, Since a few days ago I can't open the attachments of e-mail with .ppt extension. The othera are opening with no problems. The strange is that the error message is: "PowerPoint can't read c:\Windows\System32\attachfilename.ppt". Help says that the antivirus (in this case is forefront) may be preventing opening the file. Is it normal files that come in as attachments go to the System32 folder of Windows?! Something should be configured wrong. How do I check and change the location where the attach files are saved? After some research, I also found that the other attachs, as file.wmv or figure1a.gif are also loaded from the c: \Windows\System32! (I found it by looking at load history of those applications). I need help. Thank you. |

This is a known issue that affects some users who installed IE8. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed IE8? All of the questions you asked might be of general interest for statistics in market shares <g,d&rvvvvf> But: Protection software is not a condition for the appearance of the bug. As I wrote several times, the problem appears on my almost virgin test-machine which has not been touched by protection software of any kind except Windows firewall and Defender. And it appears with the latter two being deactivated. So IMHO asking questions like the above dies not help in finding out what is happening. It may be even counter-productive as it may be distracting and spoiling the necessary concentration on the *relevant* facts. If user report that and which protection is used this would be simply coincidence and not a causal connection. Rainald |
