Try changing the SMTP server to smtp.comcast.net tools>accounts>your account>server tab. http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ...s.ashx?Id=2288 |

I too am experiencing socket error 10060 and error number 0x800CCC0E and error number 0x800CCC0D. I have spoken with my ISP and they have determined it is not them, I have removed my Norton Internet Security and the problem remains and it is now recommended that it is a Microsoft problem. Several posts with this same problem. Microsoft what next? I also am now dealing with this irritating problem. I experienced this one time before, about a year ago, and my webhosting guys suggested I switch the port from 25 to 26, or 26 to 25, can't remember, and that immediately worked. Now it is not working. Are there other magical port #'s I can try, because I have done a few, to no avail this time. I have tons of replies that are stuck. This is my exact error message it gives, since last night, and it continues to receive e-mails no problem somehow, just can't send. An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: Appt Reminder....', Account: 'mail.lilkids.com', Server: 'mail.lilkids.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 26, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B however it didn't work. I received your e-mail but when I changed the port to that #, I ended up with this message: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.lilkids.com', Server: 'mail.lilkids.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E I wonder if A1webserver is having a problem. That's my host for the website, but the website is up as normal. However the guys there have not responded to my e-mails from this morning asking for help. I know there's nothing wrong with my CPU. Is it my Outlook Express that is messed up, or the server? Very frustrating past 20 hours. I did not send you an email. I posted in the newsgroup. Now wile leaving port 587 in place disable your Antivirus email scanning by uninstalling your AV and then re-installing it without the email integration (scanning) |

Ordinarily you'd get "No such host" for smPT.citymax.com but I see that CityMax has aliased it to smTP.citymax.com. Nice touch. I assume your Internet connection is being obtained from Comcast. In order to get this to work, make the following changes: 1. In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select the Gina ODS account, click Properties, Servers. Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server to smtp.comcast.net. Do not change the incoming server. Also, make sure that the "My server requires authentication" option is checked. Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using" then enter your Comcast username and password. Click OK. 2. Go to the Advanced tab and verify that the port number for the outgoing (SMTP) server is still 587. Click OK. Try sending. After you uninstalled Norton antivirus, did you follow that up with their special removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039 If the problem continues, right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message. Change the port to 587 Lilkids.com is NOT you Internet Service Provider ( ISP ). Who is ? You can only use the specific ports that your web host supports. Ask them. Is the error message the same or different when you use port 25? If different, please post it here. Another option is to substitute the SMTP server belonging to your ISP (assuming you are sending from home). "Unknown error" can be caused by interference from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running? As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off, although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled. Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons explained here If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus programs: http://download.live.com/wlmail |

Contact your mail provider and ask what alternate SMTP ports they support (besides '25'). Or tell us who your mail service provider is, and we can probably look it up. If you would like some custom help, post your complete error message. Yes, because you haven't changed the 'From' email address. Note: It is the custom in this newsgroup to quote the post to which you are replying. It makes for better continuity. Please observe customary procedures. Then you will have to substitute the SMTP server belonging to your home ISP (assuming you are sending from home). If you need help with that, tell me who your home ISP is. Here are the steps to take: 1. In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select your Back2backprotection mail account, click Properties, Servers. Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server to smtp.o2.co.uk. Do not change the incoming server. Also, make sure that the "My server requires authentication" option is checked. Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using" then enter your username@@o2.co.uk email address, and the associated password. Click OK. 5. Go to the Advanced tab and change the port number for the outgoing (SMTP) server from 26 to 25. Do not change anything else. Click OK. Try sending. |

That is not the complete error message, please post it unedited. We need to see the complete and verbatim copy of the error message, not a partial paraphrase. Either your Internet connection is intermittent, or else the DNS host for hbaservices.co.uk is less than stellar. There's nothing wrong with your Windows Mail settings. This is coming up but it doesnt happen all the time....help! whats wrong...The host 'mail.hbaservices.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.hbaservices.co.uk', Server: 'mail.hbaservices.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D |

| Re: Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Comcast
This sounds more like error 0x800CCC6F where the user's ISP blocks traffic to third-party mail servers - perhaps the server you are using has its own ideas about error codes. I would try configuring your email settings to use the SMTP server at your ISP on port 25. Last edited by Saket : 06-07-2010 at 01:12 PM. Reason: External link not allowed |

It usually helps to use the settings specified by the provider. Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message. The error number by itself is not very helpful. |

Hi I am having similar issues to those in this thread with Windows mail in Vista, I'm pretty sure I've entered all the correct POP3 server and SMTP server names correctly and even changed the port number from 25 to 587 but I still can't sent an email. Anybody have any ideas? |

This is the error message I got when trying to send an email: The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'hi', Account: 'pop3.virginmedia.com', Server: 'smtp.virginmedia.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E And I got this second bit when even opening up Windows Mail: Account: 'pop3.virginmedia.com', Server: 'pop3.virginmedia.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 |

| Re: Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Comcast
Your receive problem is due to allowing AVG antivirus to mess with your email program. Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons explained here Your AVG antivirus was probably installed with its default install option, which installs an email scanning module. Just disabling its email scanning is not a sufficient remedy. Uninstall AVG, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email scanning module. Even better, replace it with the free Microsoft security program: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials That should clear your receive error. If you still get a send error, please respond back. If the send error message is different, post it with your reply. |

| Re: Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Comcast Quote:
Basic settings for that account should be: Incoming (POP3): Server: pop.att.yahoo.com, port 995, with SSL. Outgoing (SMTP): Server: smtp.att.yahoo.com, port 465, with SSL. It is always best to set your most reliable email service as the primary, and Live.com/Hotmail ain't it. ;-) Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced. Change the SMTP port number from 25 to 587.
