| Importing PST Mail from Outlook to Windows Mail
I did a lot of online searching and believed the answer to importing saved Outlook 2003 emails to Windows Mail lied in downloading a trial version of Outlook 2007 onto my new computer , and the import the PST file into the trial outlook, then supposedly the driver or whatever would be downloaded to make it possible to import the mail from outlook 2007 into Windows Mail, but I still get this error: Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occurred while initializing it Any help would be appreciated. It burns me up that microsoft is trying to blackmail me into paying $100s for Outlook . |

I had a terrible time with this too, but I finally learned how to find my email hidden files in my original email program and change them in the control panel to non hidden files. Then you have to find them and save a copy to your documents file on your original computer. Then you move them with a flash drive to your documents file in you new computer using Vista. Then you go into your mail program in Vista and import them from your "my Documents" in the new computer. This took me days to learn and do but it worked. Go to your help files in your outlook program to learn how to change your hidden files from non hidden to start with. If you need more help, I will try to help you find the info. |

If you have Outlook, why not use it on the Vista computer? Ver 2003 works fine. But, in order to transfer, you need to install Outlook, copy the .pst file over, and open it in Outlook. Then in Windows Mail, import |

Then you could download the Office 2007 trial, install it, open the .pst, and import it into WM. Or, take the .pst file to a friend who uses Outlook on XP, open the .pst in their Outlook, open their Outlook Express, and import from Outlook. Take the ..dbx (messages) and .wab (address book) files to your Vista computer and import them into WM. You can only open a .pst file with Outlook. |

I have the dbx file on a thumb drive, but can someone tell me how to import them into a document? It doesn't work to do a direct import from the thumb drive into Windows Mail, but someone above mentioned something about putting it into a dcument. |

You usually have multiple .dbx files, one for each folder and the one that contains the folder info. Copy them to the C: drive, open WM, and when you import them, DO NOT open the folder that contains them. |
