Windows mail recieves but cant send mail

Mail was working fine for a year. all mail settings were confirmed ok by
comcast tech support. my ISP. quit working after I d/l trial version of
Microsoft Office. Comcast mail will send ok but windows mail wont? I went
back and used sytem restore prior to having the problem. didnt fix it? I
removed all mailboxes and re-installed too.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop3',
Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

very annoying please help me?

Comcast is trying to make users switch to a different port number, 587, but
has been rather poor at telling their users about this. See if this helps:

I cannot thank you enough for the solution to my problem of sending email from comcast on my Vista machine! The account information was identical on my XP machine with no issues. Simply changing the server port number on the outgoing mail for Vista did the trick.
