Windows Mail error message 0X800CCC0E

I am currently travelling and trying to use my email as I travel usually in
the evening at a hotel. Some of them have a wireless connection but others an
ethernet connection. I am trying to use my email via Windows mail and it
keeps failing sighting the above error. What can I do to fix the problem.
Obviously I am not near my internet provider.

Thanks.

Can't help without more details. Is it a send failure or a receive failure?
Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Re: Windows Mail error message 0X800CCC0E

Are you connected to Shaw's network when trying to send?

this link indicates that remote POP access is a beta trial.....
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCar...ePOPAccess.htm

so you may have to check with Shaw.

Re: Windows Mail error message 0X800CCC0E

Your receive settings appear to be correct since they agree with
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCar...ePOPAccess.htm

However, note the sentence on that page that says "...does not allow you to send
and upload email directly from your computer from a non-Shaw computer connection"

I don't know why you are getting a receive error. It sounds like something that is
unique to Shaw. Have you tried to do what it suggests, first login via webmail?

Sheila, what you experienced is normal. As a general rule, the owner of
the SMTP server must be the same as the one providing your Internet
connection at that moment. For more on this see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx

The available workarounds for sending away from home are as follows:

1. Use webmail for sending (via your browser).
2. If you use the same away-from-home connection frequently, substitute the SMTP
server belonging to that connection. This is a bit tricky, but if you want to go that route,
I can provide more details.
3. If you frequently send from multiple locations, get a free Gmail account,
configure it for POP access, and use it for your sending chores.
Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked like port 25 often is.

Re: Windows Mail error message 0X800CCC0E

I have not done anything differently from when I was using my emails at home.
The only thing that has changed is that I am travelling and using internet
connections in various hotels each night. No changes were made to any of my
shaw settings.

Sorry, disregard the paragraph starting with "Sheila".
It was in my paste buffer from a previous response.

Re: Windows Mail error message 0X800CCC0E

Yes, but Shaw is peculiar in that it seems very reluctant to give its
customers access to email when away from one's home connection.
They practically require you to jump through hoops.
See my previous response.
