| Can Windows Live Mail Work With Word 2007 to Send To Mail Recipien
Switched to using Windows Live Mail as default e-mail applicaton on my Windows Vista 64bit operating system & Microsoft Office Home Edition. Now can not email open Windows Word 2007 document because Send To Mail Recipient feature only sends by Windows Mail feature which is not the default email program. Is there a way to setup Word to allow an open document to be emailed through my Windows Live Mail account or can I setup an account in Windows Mail using my hotmail email account? I do not have another email account that I use other than Hotmail to send and recieve emails. Would like not to have to save document then open Windows Live Mail, attach document, then send. Working right out of the open Word 2007 document to send email makes more sense. -- Thank you for your help. |

It may make more sense to you, but I don't think it will work unless you have Outlook installed. Outlook's install includes a so-called MAPI handler which Word needs in order to send a document via the default mail client. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) |

| Re: Can Windows Live Mail Work With Word 2007 to Send To Mail Recipien
I have Windows 7, Office 2007 Home & Student Edition. I use Windows Live Mail for my email client. I installed the office product, and created a new Word Document. I click on the Office Button on top, select SEND TO EMAIL.. expecting Windows Live Mail to show up (set as my default mail program.) Instead I get this error: Logon Failed. You Must log on to Microsoft Exchange to Access your address book. Error Code: "unspecified Error" So I figure, Ok, maybe Office 2007 is new (even thought it's 2010 now), and there might be some fixes. I downloaded the SP2 for Office 2007, thinking this must be a common problem.. as my computer is BRAND new.... I JUST installed Windows Live Mail on it... and Just installed Office 2007. I haven't had it for more than a few hours. I install the SP2 Patch for OFF2007 fine. Rebooted. Then tried again. No Joy. I do some searching and find many Microsoft threads which indicate how to "use a Non-MS Email client with Office 2007" - Now wait! Isn't Windows Live Mail an MS product? So then, I find many other forums where they indicate you can click SEND TO EMAIL 3 times and it will work. So... Just to confirm the mind of the hive is alive and well.. I try it... Success! But, this does NOT solve the problem! I need this to WORK! I even try with Send document as PDF and it still takes 3 times to work. WTH? Why does it work on try # 3, and not on try # 1? Has ANYONE actually SOLVED this problem? I viewed the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918792?FR=1 Only this describes: Method 1: Change the default e-mail program to Outlook Method 2: Verify the registry settings Method 3? Let me fix it myself I tried Method 2 - as 1 simply resets your default mail. No joy! This is really bothering me! Is anyone else having this problem? I mean, if Windows 7 has no default mail client... and everyone is practically forced into Office 2007 these days... As a student, we buy Office assuming the same functions Office 2003 had, and now it doesn't work? I wish there was a BIG RED WARNING on the box saying "DOES NOT LET YOU EMAIL LIKE 2003 DID!" I would have kept 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Sincerely, Katt |

I am experiencing the very same issue that you speak of. I am running Windows 7, Office 2007 Professional, and have IMAP account setup within Windows Live Mail. I have made the registry change as follows, rebooted and still no luck. I can get it to work by either emailing as .pdf or changing the default file format but it is inconsistent. Seems like once you get it to work it will continue but as soon as you exit the program and open a new then you are right back with the errors. I am trying to figure out is this an issue within Office or Windows Live Mail. Did you ever find a solution? 1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > Type regedit 2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Client > Click on Mail 3. Check what appears in the right pane. It should read as below: (Default) REG_SZ Windows Live Mail 4. If Windows Live Mail does not appear, right click on (Default) and click on Modify and in the Value Data box, type Windows Live Mail Note: If you don’t find the Mail item, right click on Client and Click New > Key and rename the key to: Once the Mail key is created, right click on Mail > New > String Value. Name the value as: (Default) Right click on (Default) and Click Modify. In the Value Data box type Windows Live Mail |
